Question about advertising.

  According to all the comments I have read it is clear that advertising is not allowed on WordPress BLOG’s.

  What I am unclear about is that rule the same for BLOG that have a WordPress back bone but are hosted by another provider?

  I understand that this is a free product an I don’t want to violate the spirit giving.

  if i’m not wrong you can put ads in your self-hosted blog. this is a forum for wordpress-hosted blogs hence all the strict rules abt no ads. there’s a sticky that you should read if this is your first time in the forum.

  I have read all that documentation that you have suggested but #1 says you can and #3 says that you can not.

  Think I will go with Sulz response. Because I am using a non-WordPress host I will take for granted that I can do what I want.

  If you do not have a wordpress.com blog and instead have a web hosted blog then the correct forum for you to be in when asking questions is over here http://wordpress.org/support. We run on a different code base here.

  Per the GPL, you can do pretty much anything you want with the downloadable version of WordPress as long as you give reference that you started with the WordPress software as a basis.

  If you want to create a site about the collectability of California Raisin toys, go for it. :)

  There is no issue with putting adverts on your WP blog if it’s hosted elsewhere.
