question about appearance of comments on blog
-
How do I get my comments to appear with the post instead of on a separate page. Also, how do I get a comment box to appear right below my post? I am trying to encourage comments and thought it might help if readers could more easily see other comments and be prompted.
Thanks
Liz

What separate page would they appear on? Comments always appear directly under the post on that post’s own web page. They don’t appear at all on the main blog page. There is no way to put the comment box on the main blog page at WordPress.com.

I didn’t explain well – what I wanted was for the comments and a reply box to appear below the post, similar to the way this forum works – you see the question, the comments in sequential order and then a reply box. On my blog I see the post and then a reference to the number of comments which you must click on to see the comments or to make a comment. There is no running series of comments to entice them or big white box to beg for their input.

That can’t happen on WordPress.com. If you hosted your own site, you could set it up that way with a bit of coding, but it doesn’t work that way here and it most likely never will. The philosophy is to show off the primary voice of the blog; if you want comments with equal prominence as the blog post, you might prefer a wiki or a forum.
Some people put a seed comment there themselves to start things off, but the best way to get comments is to post a quiz or something that makes the readers’ answers essentially part of the content.
If your readers are too shy to comment unless someone goes first, you should cultivate a few loquacious and opinionated readers. It’s very effective.
