Question about buying a plan + domain

    Hi everyone, I hope you can help me. I tried searching for this topic but couldn’t find anything recent or relevant.

    I’m going to be purchasing a WP plan, as well as a new domain name for it. It will be quite a different domain name than the one I have.

    My question is two-fold. Firstly, once I purchase the domain, does my site immediately get transferred over to the new domain? I have seen sites where people say you must do backups and add all sorts of things, but from what I can see, those are for people who have existing domains or buy one hosted by a different service.

    Secondly, will all the pages on my site automatically change to the new domain in terms of the URL? And if someone clicks on an old link (like one I shared on Twitter), will it redirect to the new URL?

    I’m not vert experienced in the technical side of this stuff, so I’ll appreciate any help and advice!

    Yes if you want to change the address of your site you can upgrade https://moviesunchained.wordpress.com/ to an annual paid plan and register a custom domain for it. Nothing will change (apart from now having access to whatever additional features come with your new plan) and everything will redirect to the new address. The original subdomain will still exist in case you ever reverted back to free.
