Question about comments

  • Unknown's avatar

Whenever I have visited other WP blogs today, the comments that are posted in response to entries are not counted correctly – the count seems to be down by 1. So if there are really 2 comments made for an entry, the front page states that only 1 has been made, or for 1 total comment, it says that there are no comments at all.

Am I the only one noticing this?

  • If you leave a comment and it’s held for moderation, you’ll see the comment but it won’t show up publicly (and the counter won’t bump) until it’s approved.

The comments on my blog are there … but not being counted correctly. These comments are NOT in moderation. Any suggestions.

Are there any comments under the Dashboard -> Manage -> Akismet Spam tab? I believe those count as well until you deal with them.

    How bad is it off?

Can we have a link please to your blog?

How many are you suppose to have?

How many does it say you have?

There are no comments under Akismet. If I go in and click manage and then click on comments and edit.. but do not edit.. the comment count is then correct.

This incorrect counting of the comments has been happening for some time

Is there an email that I may use to send the url. We would like to keep the blog private. I have filled in a feedback form.

    Thanks for your help

It has happened again this morning. Under the newest post… there is a comment… but the comment counter says no comments. Is this a bug or what.

Please also answer the other questions I have asked you.

Which comment counter are you discussing as well please.

“There are no comments under Akismet”

I thought Akismet was just for spam? Or at least that is the way it shows up on mine. When I go to Manage, I get:
    Posts – Pages – Categories – Comments – Awaiting Moderation (#) – Invites (#) – Akismet Spam (#)

Is that what you see? Are you skipping past the Comments one?

I am discussing the comment counter just under the post.

It still does not count the first post. Any one have any suggestions. I submitted a feedback .. but no response.

HOW CAN WE DEAL WITH UNWANTED COMMNETS ?

  • Unknown's avatar

Delete them or ignore them. There is a whole separate discussion over at Lorelle’s blog about dealing with comments. If I can find the article I will link it for you.

Oh, and can you take the CAPS LOCK off please, it’s considered to be shouting. Thanks!

I have had this problem of comments not showing up in the past. I guess sometimes the server too slow to respond.

About getting rid of unwanted comments, as cornell said, just delete them. If you have been bugged by a person or a particular ip, then block that ip from commenting on your blog. Then the comments will move to moderation or spam section.
If you blacklist any ips or words, any comments containing such words or users will not be shown at all.
    Hope this helps,

    my 2 cents…

i have a question about whether it is possible to have the first few words of comments appear on e.g. the front page if i use the widget from wordpress.com. i have seen this on other pages and i quite like it. any pointers?

  • Unknown's avatar

What widget are you talking about? I’m not aware of anything at WordPress.com that would allow that functionality. Where are you seeing examples of this?

  • Unknown's avatar

I think markusbc meant was he wants a similar comment widget to appear with the excerpts of the posts on the sidebar. I think this is a comment plugin available only for wordpress.org.

  • Unknown's avatar

Agreed. I think markusbc is requesting a widget to be like that. Best bet would be to send in a feedback on monday and suggest it.

Without seeing a link to what he is looking at, all we can do is guess though.
