  in the free version is there a way to delete the comment option to readers,

  There isn’t a way to “Delete” the comment option but you can turn off comments on each post and for the whole blog. If users then try to comment they will see “Comments are closed”.

  To do this go to the dashboard, options, Discussion and untick

  Allow people to post comments on the article

  If you have old posts you want to turn off you’ll have to edit each post I’m afraid.
