Question about creating static front page
-
I have a very full blog that has been active for awhile.
Now I’d like to create a static front page to feature some work. (Up until now, the front page has displayed the site’s latest posts.)
In addition to creating one new home page to serve as the static front page, I understand I also need to add a new page called blog.
Will all of the blog material currently on the home page automatically be redirected to the blog page? Afraid to do this without confirmation!!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

as far as i know you cannot have a static front page because as you said that’s where the post’s go, but you can make as many static page’s as you want for the header bar and name them, see below along the header bar.

There is definitely an option to have a static front page under settings – my question is whether it will compromise my existing posts since I’m wanting to set the front page up retroactively.

@Harry & jblaustein
We can create a static pages and then choose to assign another page as the static front page of the blog, and assign another page to be the running page for posts, rather than the front page
> Settings > Reading
Front page displays
__ Your latest posts
__ A static page (select below)* Front page:
* Posts page:

Yes!
But is this a wise thing to do? Without doubt, compelling returning readers to click through a static front page each and every time they want to read your latest post is a traffic killer. Thank you for the clarification timethief. In this particular case, there is no concern about decreased traffic. I just want to make sure the material that is currently there won’t disappear into the ether!

Your posts will not disappear. They will all appear under whatever running page for posts you assign them to. :)
