Question about Domain Purchasing

Hey there. I have a website currently with Yahoo webhosting. I have made a blog with WordPress and want to cancel out (in about a month) my service with Yahoo and purchase the same domain with WordPress. Is there any need for me to have an actual webhosting service, or is it just as simple to use the web domain purchase and mapping services that you all offer? I like the capability to edit the website like I do with the blog options here, so I’d rather not export my changes and try to put them on Yahoo. Also, I’m not sure if there is a specific time period between canceling my services and updating WordPress to the domain might be. Any help would be appreciated. :)

Hey there,
Domain names are a very fickle thing. Once you delete a domain, it is in a state where it cannot be registered by any party for several weeks. After that period, anyone can register it–which means another party may re-purchase your domain before you do.
Your safest bet is to continue to renew your domain name through Yahoo!, and then map your domain to your WordPress.com blog. This will allow you to use the features of WordPress.com without needing to worry about losing your domain.

Thanks for the reply. However, I don’t want to pay for both. I just want to pay for WordPress. Now, my domain is available for a move – have an authorization code that I can use and everything. It’s been registered since 2002, so I can move it easily. Who do I need to contact, if you know, to provide this authorization code to move the domain? Looking to find this out first before I purchase my bundle.
