    Am considering upgrading from Free plan to Personal. I need to know about the free domain offer.

    Am I required to use it, or is it optional?

    If I use it, is there a fee for hosting?

    If I use it, what are the fees to renew it for the next year?

    You are not required to register a domain using the free domain offer, but we do recommend you use it since using a custom domain gives your site a professional look, and you also get some branding and SEO advantage by using a custom domain as opposed to a WordPress.com address.

    If I use it, is there a fee for hosting?

    Think of it this way: Hosting is free on WordPress.com. With WordPress.com plans, you add more features to your site. For example, with the Personal plan, you add extra storage space, the ability to set a custom domain as the primary address, and the removal of ads from your sites.

    Similarly, you get more storage, video uploading capabilities, advanced design customization, and more with the Premium plan. And with the Business plan or higher, you add even more features to your site by unlocking the power of plugins and third-party themes.

    So you get those features with the WordPress.com plan you purchase for your site. You already have a site hosted by us. So you don’t need separate hosting if you register a custom domain. :)

    If I use it, what are the fees to renew it for the next year?

    Since the domain is free with the first year of a paid plan, when it’s time to renew, you will pay for two different subscriptions:

    1. The WordPress.com plan
    2. The domain registration fee
