Question about infinite scroll

    Hi,
    I’m not trying to open another giant debate about the pros/cons of infinite scroll, but the fact is, it absolutely does not work for my blog. It really bothers me that visitors to my site will not be able to look through the archives of posts by date and year, in a logical manner, but instead will have to scroll ‘infinitely’ up and down this endless freeway of posts, just hoping they can eventually find what they’re looking for amongst a sea of slowly loading images. Many people, including myself, conceive of their blogs as archives, not just facebook-style ‘look what I did today, now forget it’ pages.

    As someone who really likes wordpress, and is impressed as hell at the beauty of it’s themes, I would like to humbly request that you bring back the option to archive posts according to date/year. This seems like such a small thing to ask!

    In the meantime, is there anyone out there who knows of a way to do this with css? I saw that someone had posted some CSS solutions for this problem on the WordPress Tips site, but my theme (imbalance2) wasn’t included on the list. I’ve purchased the css upgrade, so please respond to my question. Thanks!

    Thanks justpi,

    I’m very close to a workable solution for this I think. If I could just get a few more suggestions I think I’ll be all set.

    1. I used the css code from the “wordpress tips” site to disable the ‘load more posts’ button, but what it actually did was shrink the font of the button, and move it over to the bottom left of the page. This is definitely preferable to how it was before, but I would like to get rid of it all together. Any suggestions?

    2. I’ve installed an archives widget in my area two footer for monthly archives, and this seems to work great. It’s exactly what I wanted. But when you open one of these archived months it displays in big text across the top of it “MONTHLY ARCHIVES: ETC”. Is there any way to have an archived month load without any text on top (just the posts, in other words)?

    Thanks to anyone who responds!!

    You’re welcome.

    “WordPress tips” is my blog. I understand you wrote #1 before realizing that I added the solution for Imbalance to the post.

    As for #2:

    .archive .page-title {
        display: none;
    }

    Ah, no: I read #1 again and now I understood what you’re saying. But you’re not right. That’s not the same button (the one that loads more posts on the same page), it’s the standard older/newer navigation system that was used before the introduction of infinite scrolling. Click on it to see the difference.

    You’re absolutely right. That button is fine.

    I’m off to work but will try that css you provided for my second question when I get home.

    Thanks VERY much.

    Yep, all worked great. Thanks again.
