Question about links to blog post
-
I have a question regarding a blog post that I will be putting in Draft mode. This blog post that I am taking offline is linked from other blog posts I wrote. So when I republish this particular blog post, will the links from other blog posts link back to the republished blog post? Thank you.
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, as long as you don’t change the post’s slug, existing links will continue to work: https://wordpress.com/support/permalinks-and-slugs/#how-slugs-work

Hello and thank you for your response.
Here is another question regarding offline blog post. I had actually copied the post that I’m referring to, which is in Draft mode. If I put that slug address into the copied post, will the external links point to that one?

Hi there,
If I put that slug address into the copied post, will the external links point to that one?
The original post? Yes, if you put the entire address in the copied draft post, people will be able to click on that link which will send them to the original post once it is published.
Hope that helps.

Yes, what I plan to do is to publish the copied post. If I put that slug in there, will the external links point to it? Should I remove the slug from the original post that I will not publishing?

@billboardguy just bear in mind, you won’t be able to have two posts published with the same slug and url.
I’m not sure I’m following this entirely, but, if you had previously published a post, that address is taken. Even if you unpublished, so long as you did not completely delete it.
If you wrote some new post that you won’t be publishing after all, that new post should not have the old post’s URL, so it shouldn’t affect anything.
Going forward, I’d recommend against putting content back in draft status; anyone who clicked a link to it in the meantime would get an error. Unless that’s your intent, I’d recommend just leaving it published and updating it as needed.

Ok, if you’re planning on re-using an old post’s slug, you’ll need to delete the old post and empty the trash first.
You’ll also need to change the date on the new post so the link matches the date on the old post, otherwise links will still be broken.
Because of all that, if you just want to update the content of the existing post, we strongly recommend just editing that post.
