Question About Mapping a Domain From Weebly

    Hi there,

So, I have purchased my domain from Weebly, and am currently in the process of mapping it to my WordPress blog. Once I do so, will the site (collegecourtreport.com) direct people to my WordPress site, and will it look the same as my current WordPress blog? Hopefully I clarified that okay…any help would be great!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. If you followed the instructions in the domain mapping support doc, that’s what should happen, yes. It won’t merely look like your WordPress.com site, it will be that site. What the mapping does is lay your custom domain over your WordPress.com URL, so both URLs will take people to your blog, but only the custom URL will show in their browsers.

Just to be clear, you have to buy the mapping upgrade from your WordPress.com dashboard, and change the name servers for the domain at Weebly. It can take up to 72 hours for your blog to appear at that domain after doing this.

Once you update your domain’s name servers to point to WordPress.com, the domain will direct visitors to your WordPress.com site, collegecourtreport.wordpress.com:

Perfect, thank you both for all of your help!

    One further question, regarding stats:
I have successfully mapped my domain to WordPress, but I have noticed that stats are still going up through Weebly, and on WordPress they are nowhere representative of the views/visitors I was getting when it was on Weebly. Is this something that takes time to change over as well, or is there something that I don’t quite know?

Thank you again for the assistance!

  • I don’t know how Weebly works, but if you have followers there they wouldn’t have been transferred across to WordPress.com. If you still have an active site on a free Weebly domain, I suggest you publish a post there informing your visitors that your site is now hosted on WordPress.com and they must come subscribe to it here.

You should probably also at some point set your Weebly site to private to prevent Google from penalising you in search results due to duplicate content. The move to WordPress.com might also cause a temporary drop in search ranking, as search engines will need to re-index your content at their new WordPress.com URLs. That could also explain the drop in your stats.
