Question about my blog stats

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi might be a stupid question but can someone explain to me how the blog stats work? I have 23 hits today (woohoo!) but under “Referrers” None are listed for today – yet 10 of my posts have been read today and appear under the Top Posts list.

So who are reading them and why do they not come up under “Referrers”?

    I don’t understand!

    Thanx in advance.

Referrers are where your readers are coming from. That’s where thry have found links to your blog.

They’re probably coming in via bookmarks or something simular.

    Hi –

If referrers are coming from a page, how come that twice I have received referrals from what looks like the INSIDE of my hotmail message box. The menu with write, send, junk, delete…is clear but the messages themselves are blanked out. Could word press have accidentally tracked me or is this a hotmail hacker at work and if so what can I do?
    Thanks
    L

It’s probably someone using a service like feedburner to keep updated on their blogs. Some services send out a daily mail listing who’s sites have been updated.

    Hi –

Thanks for the info but the referrer page is the inside of MY hotmail (email not attached to wordpress, independent service on free hotmail) box. Today it was the inbox with all my mails visible in the message page.
How does anyone else get access to that from a feedburner?
    Thanks
    L

Thanks for the info but the referrer page is the inside of MY hotmail
    Thank you both

Then it has nothing to do with the referrer page here at wordpress.com. I have a feeling that beside spamming your links here, you’re at the incorrect forum.

    Hmm –

Thanks very much. It is showing up under my referral page in my word press blog stats – so that’s why I came here – thought it might be a bug and that word press was tracking me.

So it’s just a spammer, following me around no matter where I write to?
Then it’s a computer security issue I suppose.
    Thanks anyway.

No, what Dr Mike is saying is that we’re not sure you have a blog hosted here at WordPress.com. Have you read the Read Me First thread?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes – my address is at word press. I want to move to a paid host but I haven’t completed the process and am still blogging at wordpress, as far as I know.
Unless I am not in wordpress.org but the address is still showing as .com

Not sure. But thanks for letting me know.

  • Unknown's avatar

What is the blog address? We can determine where it’s hosted if we look at it.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Looks like it’s at http://lilarajiva.wordpress.com/

(Tied up with a ticket. Someone else is going to have to explain.)

I’m not sure about this, but it could just be that you’re still signed into Hotmail when you check referrer stats and that when you check a referral that was somebody emailing someone’s hotmail account with your blog in the email, it takes you to YOUR account instead of theirs? So A emails B, saying “check out this blog” and when you follow the referrer link you get redirected to hotmail itself and since you’re signed in it takes you to that blank spot, because it can’t load A or B’s account, because you’re not them.

    Does that make sense?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes – actually, thanks – that sounds like it could be the case. I am often signed in and going back and forth.

But someone has been upping the spam too. So I should probably check out the spam thread and figure out how to protect myself more.
    Thanks a lot.
    Very kind of you.

Glad to help. Mark told me the other day Akismet stopped 16 million spams, so yes, we’re getting hammered. A few are slipping through the net as well. Closing comments on old posts does help prevent this, as they always seem to hit the old ones, and only certain of those.

So I should probably check out the spam thread and figure out how to protect myself more.

All wordpress.com bloggers are on the same shared multi-user blogging platform. All of our blogs are protected by Akismet. There are no additional spam plugins that can be used atat wordpress.com. Like raincoater said, the best thing you can do to cut down your spam load is to close comments on your old posts.
