Question about Pictures

  Hello, new to WP and blogging. I have a question about pictures. Is posting a picture from another site against the rules? For example: I would like to use a picture of a map. It has the copyright symbol on it and the site name from which it is from. Is it ok to use it? If not I will take it down. Thank you.

  My suggestion is to always contact the other site and ask for permission. Some places are much more sensitive than others.

  I was confused about how strict posting copyrighted material is on WP. But assuming the copyright allows posting of whatever it is, it is ok to be posted?

  If the other site were to complain about you using their copyrighted material, you risk losing your blog, or at the very least having wordpress delete any copyrighted material.

  As long as you have permission to post copyrighted material from another source, then there isn’t a problem.

  At the very least, you should either link the image back to the site you got it from, or provide a live text link above or below the image to the site it came from.

  Also, if you are hotlinking the image off of their site, it is going to increase their bandwidth usage and many places will get really cranky about that.

  Bottom line: Ask before posting copyrighted material, and if you receive permission, make sure and comply with any restrictions or guidelines they give for using the material.
