Question about privacy and sharing

    Dear Community,
I would like to have my website ‘private’, and add a password to the whole web. So that when I send the website address to someone, plus a password, they can go to the web and enter the password (only once) and be able to read the complete content. Is this possible? If yes, could you please tell me how to do it?

Thank you very much in advance!

    Kind regards,

    Silvana.

Howdy Silvana! Lovely name by the way.

You can set your website to Private by going to My Sites > Settings > Scroll down to the “Privacy” section > Click on “Private” > Click “Save Settings”

For someone to access your private site you can either send them an invitation or they click a link that asks “Request access to view the site” where you have full control of who can and can’t access it.

You can read more on privacy at https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/#viewing-a-private site.

    Hi Eallas,

Thank you for your reply. I forgot to mention that I already checked that ;)
I have one web that I want to have as online CV. So it is more convenient that recruiters or hiring managers can access with only one step, instead of sending a message to me that I then need to allow. If it takes too many steps, it will be a down side.

That is why I wanted only one password for all the access, that I can already provide when I send the link to the web. Is that possible?

    Thanks for your help!
    Silvana.

    Hi Silvana!

Oh, I see now! You can set a page to be password protected by going to the page edit, clicking on the eye icon at the top-right, and clicking on “Password Protect” to set a password to the page.

For more information, you can find it at https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-visibility/.

Hi Eallas, Yes that’s exactly what I want, and I did. Just one question:
I know I can do this for every page separate, but…
Can I set a password somewhere so that when I type it only once I can see the whole web, or do I have to do it for every page, and then you have to add the password every time you click on a different page of the web?
I know this can be difficult to explain/understand.
Thank you for your help! Very supportive :D

    Hi Silvana!

Unfortunately, you can only password protect posts and pages. As stated previously, the only method to privatizing your site is through making it private and have those people click the “Request” button. Once you accept them once, they have access to the whole site and the rest of your site continues to stay private to those you haven’t accepted.

Thank you for your all your help! It’s all clear now, I will do it with password, I think it’s the best option. Very much appreciated!!

    Have a great day :)
