question about pubishing a website

Hello,
I have the impression that before using the website builder I need to connect it to a domain, which sounds a bit counter intuitive. I own a .com address but I dont want to commit to linking it to wordpress. Firstly, people will see an unfinished website and second, I dont know if I am capable of using wordpress yet.
Is there any way to just try to build with dworpress and connect it to a .com later?Site: https://musicdating382285933.wordpress.com.

@musicdating382285933, you can skip adding your domain for now and just stay with the free address.
You can connect your custom domain later on when you feel your site is ready.Even if you decided to upgrade to a paid plan and see a prompt to register/map a domain, you can skip that step and choose the free subdomain instead.

Thank you! I don’t see how I can skip that. It seems that whatever I do, I must absolutely pay. It leads me to 1 of 4 paying options. I have to “choose a plan”

Hi – I don’t know where this music dating came from ! It must be a very old login I created in another life.
I don’t really know what I am trying to do – just create a website I suppose. But after 15 minutes I feel I’m about to cry. It’s just so uninstinctive. I’ll pay someone to do it for me. Thanks !
