Question about "Recent Posts" widget…
-
After three years of struggling with my blog, I’ve recently switched to a different theme, and just realized that I have the option of adding a ‘Recent Posts’ widget. Here’s the issue…
In the past, I didn’t know or realize this was possible, so on my ‘Updates’ page…it’s basically just one LONG update, instead of a separate post for each time that I added an update.

I’d like to add the ‘Recent Posts’ widget, but will the widget automatically and retroactively break apart the past updates…or will it just show up as one post?
I’d like to be able to separate the past updates if possible, and of course continue this with future updates.
Hoping you can help,
Thanks,
Dan
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It just IS one page, so it will only show as one page. It won’t show in the Recent Posts widget at all, because it’s not a Post, it’s a Page. Sorry to give you the bad news. You’ll have to make manual posts.

Thanks so much for your reply, I really appreciate it. That’s kind of what I thought…but thought I’d ask just in case.
So from now on, once I add the widget, how do I make new updates show up as ‘posts’ instead of just another addition to the original page?
Do I need to start a new page…”New Updates”…or how should I proceed?
Sorry…I’m disabled in both brain and body. Thanks in advance.

You will need to make new posts. Do not keep adding to that page.
Here is some information about how posts and pages are different:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/For each update you make, on your dashboard, choose “new post” and add a category or tag to each of them. For example, add the category “latest update.”

If you want to do that, then you’ll need to use the text editor. Go to your update page, change the visual editor to text editor, then one by one copy all the code from one update at a time. Go back to your dashboard, choose to add a new post, choose the text editor, then paste the code for one update into the new post. You can edit the date of the post in the publish module to match the update you have copied.

Here is what the dashboard looks like so you can choose “new post”

click on the edit button next to “publish immediately” and change the date.
