Question about redirection of my domain.

I own laubenthal.net which at some point I am going to point to a new travel blog to be created at wordpress.com. I’ve read the page about changing the main name servers for laubenthal.net to point to the wordpress name servers . . .but that requires me to go back and set up mx records to ensure that my mail flows to the host currently hosting my domain and web site.

If possible . . .I would rather just redirect http://www.laubenthal.net and laubenthal.net to the appropriate wordpress page . . .and leave the dns management at it’s current location. I realize I’ll still need to pay the domain mapping fee . . .that’s no big deal but would prefer to keep my dns and domain management with my local host.

So . . .assuming that my new travel blog is guentherthebear.wordpress.com . . .is it simply a matter of changing http://www.laubethal.net and laubenthal.net to point to guentherthebear.wordpress.com . . .or is there more to it than that.

Assuming the above will work . . .once a site visitor gets to the wordpress site . . .will he see it as guentherthebear.wordpress.com or as laubenthal.net?

If the above won’t work . . .then I’ll probably use a subdomain travel.laubenthal.net to point to the wordpress site . . .again I’ve read the page about that and it appears that it will work fine . . .but will users see travel.laubenthal.net or guentherthebear.wordpress.com?

    Thanks.

  • Unfortunately, you will have to map the domain either way, so you’ll have to setup for MX records here after doing that.

Alternatively, you could just setup your email through Google Apps for Domains: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/google-apps-email/
