Question about restore
-
Hello, my WordPress site got deleted, and I am attempting to restore it. It was backed up in a SQL file. I first installed the latest version of WordPress in my root directory. Then, I made a new database (with a new name) and imported the SQL backup into it. However, when I browse to the site, I am able to open it with my email and password, but there is no content there. Looking at the SQL file, all of the content appears to be there.
I read the WordPress help site on “restore”, but I am afraid to touch it after all this work getting to where I am now. I read somewhere in the “restore” section that I was supposed to install WordPress AFTER the database was made. I’m afraid to do that for fear I might mess something else up.
If I could be pointed in the right direction, I would appreciate it.
Thank you.

Hi @shred998
It looks like that your site is using the self-hosted version of WordPress.
We’re only able to provide support for WordPress websites that are hosted by us.
This forum is only for the websites hosted on WordPress.com
There is a difference between WordPress.com and Self-Hosted WordPress (WordPress.ORG), you can read this article:

For a self-hosted version of WordPress you need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums: https://wordpress.org/support/
Best,
