question about tags

  I keep trying to search on here about tags but I am not finding an answer, maybe I am looking in the wrong place- if this has been covered please point as to where I can find this info:
  I understand what a tag is and how to place them in my posts, I just don’t understand why I should do this??? I just added some tags to my last post and it just lists the words underneath my post, how does this help my reader or bring hits to my page??? I am sorry- I am new to all of this and am trying to figure everything out!!!

  You don’t have to do it – you can use detailed categories only. Check the following and see if they answer your questions:
