Question about upgrades and using my own domain

    If i upgrade my blog and used my own domain can i use external theme on it ?

    i don’t think so. You have to be self-hosted for that.

    Only if you’re really good at editing and adapting CSS and you buy the CSS upgrade AND the theme is editable and adaptable, let’s put it that way. Or you can always hire someone who has those skills, but it generally costs money.

    The domain upgrade only changes your URL, nothing else.

    To have full control and be able to use external themes, you would have to self-host your blog on your own domain using the software downloaded from http://wordpress.org , and do all the maintenance, upgrades and troubleshooting yourself. And as raincoaster says, to make modifications to a theme or to the CSS, you would have to have experience, or hire someone to do it for you.

    Although we have restrictions on the amount of customization we can do here at wordpress.com, all the maintenance, upgrades and such are taken care of for us and all we have to worry about is blogging.
