Question about wordpress.com premium package
-
I have an existing domain that I recently registered with wordpress. I am interested in changing the domain name to a new name. Because it is a .com, and from what I read on the other forum posts, I believe I need to purchase & register a new name in order to change it. Is that correct? While looking into this, I noticed the wordpress.com premium package includes a domain name and videopress. Would purchasing this package allow me to purchase and register a new domain name? Thank you so much!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello
According to the premium plan description
WordPress.com Premium includes a free credit to register a new domain for your blog
So assuming that the new domain name that you want is available you should be able to register it with the purchase of the premium plan.
Cheers!

Hi again, I just signed up for the wordpress premium 14 day free trial and the receipt came through for $99. However, in the store, prior to purchase, it was listed at $79. Can you let me know why?
Thank you again for your help,
Lauren -
Hi Lauren! Good to ‘see’ you again :)
The $99 you saw is a ‘hold’ on your credit card account that our system creates automatically when someone purchases an upgrade. This is simply to confirm the customer has the funds in her account once the charge actually goes through. Because the upgrade usually costs $99, that is what was sent as a hold on your account. You haven’t been charged yet.
The Premium upgrade is $79 if you’ve purchase another upgrade that is also a component of the Premium package. When your free trial is over, you should only be charged $79 because of your recent purchase of karmamamma.com/. As long as you don’t add a new domain as part of your Premium upgrade, the cost of karmamamma.com gives you that $20 discount when Premium goes live.
I hope this helps clarify things. If you choose to cancel or engage the Premium package before the expiration on 5/20/2014, let me know and I can help finalize the process.
Thanks so much!

Hi, I apologize for the two-part question. I just went to create a new post and the ‘fetch video’ link doesn’t seem to be working. I click it and nothing happens. I was assuming w/the premium package trial I’d now be able to embed video directly from my computer.
This is happening on both http://www.laurenshow.com and http://www.karmamamma.comThank you!

Hi Robyn! Great to see you too!!:)
I apologize for splitting questions again. I added another question above before seeing your response, which I’m just seeing. And I have a question regarding what you sent. In my original inquiry I had asked if a new domain reg was included in the premium package. Apokalyptic kindly responded advising that it was. So I went ahead and signed up for the premium free trial w the understanding that a new domain and video press are included for the $79. When the receipt came through it showed $99, which you mentioned is because of the new domain reg. I’m confused because my understanding from the description and from the response above is that the domain reg is included in the $79 annual price. Can you advise?
Thanks so much!

Hi Lauren!
I just researched a bit further and saw that we do indeed have a $79 sale on the Premium upgrade. This is what you should be charged once it goes live. Could you tell me where you saw the $99 charge? Is it on your credit card statement? You shouldn’t yet have been charged at all because of your trial status. Could you confirm for me the PayPal transaction number on the $99 charge?
I did some testing and VideoPress is live on your site as part of your trial. I want to make certain that you are uploading your video content according to the following steps:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/videopress/Make sure to check on file types and sizes.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much! :)

Hi again, Robyn,
Thanks so much for getting back to me. I went into my billing history to pull the ID and the charge has been zeroed out. It initially came in at $99 earlier today. It’s really strange. The ID# on the page is 2FH44780WN935600C.Another strange thing is occurring: I was having trouble pulling the video file direct from my computer to create a video post, so I uploaded to youtube. I then pulled the embed code and pasted into the post – just as I have for my fourteen previous posts – all of which worked beautifully. But for this one, the embeded video shows on my preview page and then when I publish, only the embed code appears. I’ve tried it four times and the same thing is happening. I don’t understand why. I thought it might be have something to do w/the new package or the fact that I posted on laurenshow.com and then chose karmamamma.com as my primary domain, so I undid that. But it didn’t help. Here’s a link to the post. http://laurenshow.com/2014/05/06/mom-my-new-friend-is-black/
Can you advise?
Thank you again, so much,
Lauren -
Hi Lauren,
All right, as long as you weren’t charged. That was my concern. Please confirm you’re charged for the correct amount, if you decide to move forward with the upgrade.
Regarding the code, you’ll want to add the short code, rather than the one with iframe coding. Here are instructions for that:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/I would also like you to try to upload your video again into your Media Library. You should be able to do that. Media → Add New. Make sure that your file is one of our supported types:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/accepted-filetypes/Thanks Lauren! Let me know how that goes.

Hi Robyn,
Thanks again for getting back to me so quickly!
I tried uploading the video directly from my computer using the Media, Add new, and am getting the following error message: Error 140506-093745.wmv An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.
The file is a wmv, which is listed on the page as an accepted file, so I’m confused.I also wanted to double check the premium package and domain reg price is on sale for $79. I had received a separate message from you mentioning that it’s $79 if you register separately, but I had seen it listed as $79 for both videopress and the registration in the wordpress store. After seeing that, I posted my initial inquiry (the first in the string above) just confirming that it did include video press and the domain registration. I didn’t list the price in the inquiry but it showed $79 in the store.
Thank you again,
Lauren -
Lauren, I will make sure you pay $79 for the premium package. Altogether. Domain registration and Video Press. You signed up at the discounted price, and that’s all you should pay it total.
I’m going to send you a private email. Could you attach your WMV file in reply so I can test it out?
How did you record the video file? On what device and operating system? How did you move your file from your recording device to your computer? What is the size of the file?
Thanks Lauren! We’ll get this ironed out :)
-
Hi Robyn,
That all sounds great, thanks so much! I’ll send the file. It’s a wmv file that was recorded w/the Dell Web Cam that comes with/is part of the Del laptop I’m working on. The size is 17,655 kb. Operating on Windows 7.
I’m wondering if it may have caused an error message because the file name has a dash in it.
One more question, I noticed that if I upgrade the video package then I can manually remove the WP watermark from the videos. Is this something that has to be done manually to each video? Or is it a setting that can be altered once.
Thanks again, Robyn, I’ll look out for your email and send the file.:)

Hi Lauren,
You can remove the watermark using a bit of CSS code. You shouldn’t have to do this more than once.
Click Appearance → Customize. Click CSS in the right hand menu. Paste the following into your CSS Revisions box:
To hide the watermark on the video, add this snippet to your custom CSS:
.videopress-watermark {
display: none;
}Save your changes.
I’m wondering if it may have caused an error message because the file name has a dash in it.
Great minds must think alike. I was going to ask you to rename the file to something shorter and without a hyphen and give the upload a try. Let me know how that goes!
I’ll keep an eye out for your response! Cheers!

Hi Robyn,
Thank you again for getting back to me! I renamed the file and the upload didn’t work. I got the following error message: [ Error My New Friend.wmv An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later. ]As for the CSS code, I cleared out the text that was in there (the intro/informational text) and pasted in the above. I’m not sure if it worked only because I don’t have a direct-video upload yet. But I know we will soon and I’ll report back.:)
Thanks again for all,
Lauren -
Hello again,
I just checked my billing history and it looks like I was charged $18 for the domain registration (for karmamamma.com) and $0 for the premium package. Since the domain registration is included in the price of the premium package, and the package was on sale for $79, I just wanted to confirm that the remaining charge will come in at $61 after the trial is up ($79 less the $18 for the domain reg).
Thank you again,
Lauren -
Hi again, Robyn,
I found the page that lists the premium package as $99; it’s in my Upgrades. I pasted it below so you can see it. Here the domain is listed as $26, not a separate charge for $18, so please disregard my message above about the $18 charge. I had mistakenly noted an earlier charge for laurenshow.com.
I so apologize for all the back and forth about it.

Lauren, Like I said before — don’t worry. I will make certain that you are only charged $79 :)
One more try with the video: could you remove the spaces? Just have a simple one word title? We’ll see how that goes. If it uploads, please let me know how the watermark-removal worked!
Many thanks!
-
Hi Robyn,
I tried the space removal and that particular video is still getting an error message. I tried a different video and it uploaded. The watermark removal however didn’t take. There’s a ‘video press’ water mark in the lower right hand corner. The CSS revisions box contains only this: .videopress-watermark {
display: none;
}Thank you!

Hi again Robyn,
This is slightly separate so if you’d prefer I open a new thread I understand.
I purchased the domain karmamamma.com with the intention of creating a new blog, and also redirecting visitors to laurenshow.com to karmamamma. I tried to set up a separate wordpress.com blog and map it to karmamamma, but it doesn’t seem to let me. It seems I can’t if I have laurenshow already directing to it.
When I try to customize karmamamma.com, the dashboard takes me to laurenshow.wordpress.com. I’m wondering how I make karmamamma its own entity while redirecting laurenshow traffic to it?
Thank you!!
Lauren
