Question: Can people see password protected posts and comments?

/nod to judyb12 – good reference
In case anyone would like to try a random password generator here is a link http://www.pctools.com/guides/password/

Moderators here in the forums (ie Me and Trent) have no special backend access on the blogs.

Oh, you know. I always thought people couldn’t gain access to my password protected entries because they do not have the key to them, but recently, I’ve been told that many of my protected entries’ content can be read when you view the page source.
This is hardly ever the problem for me with WordPress because the page source used to overwrite the content with this: “This post is password protected. Enter the password to view comments.”
So what’s the actual reason? Is it just my browser’s problem or what?

I get nothing when I try to view source on your protected entries; I’m using IE6.
Do note that if you publish them normally, THEN password-protect them, search engine bots will have already cached them and they’ll be viewable on those search engines. Always make that call right from the very start.

I’ve been using Mozilla Firefox for ages and all’s well until recently. If I can see the content via page source, doesn’t that mean everyone else will be able to do so too?
So you’re saying that I have to password protect them even before I pen the entry?

I don’t get any of your protected content when i view the source on this post:
http://adaaaa.wordpress.com/2007/04/01/something-you-shouldnt-know/I’m using Firefox 2.0.0.3 on a Mac.
Try to get more detail from those who have told you they can see the content in the source. Had they already put in the password? What browser were they using?

Adaaaa, please point at specific Posts where you can see the output in source. Please don’t make us guess.
You’re probably seeing them as you’re the blog admin.
