Question for the Accessibility Team

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a question regarding the “content links” section of the accessibility handbook for themes. I’m not sure how to contact the Accessibility team

I was comparing it to my active theme “Sundace” (which is listed as being accessibility compatible by way of the accessibility-ready filter.) The guide says.

The underline is the only accepted method of indicating links within content. Bold, italicized, or color-differentiated text is ambiguous and will not pass.

Under “Sundance” links within context are only underlined when there is a “mouse-over” in effect. They are not underlined in general.

Is this a problem? It doesn’t seem to meet the standards in the current accessibility handbook for themes.

Hi there, I might be a little confused, but I see you posted this same question a day ago, but that thread was marked “Resolved.” This thread is marked as “not a support question” but it seems to be.

I don’t see Sundance mentioned in the current accessibility-ready free themes listed in your link and note that the theme has been retired. Generally speaking, retired themes are only updated for security issues.

This thread has been flagged for Staff attention; thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

I marked the other one as “resolved” because after 2 days it was clear I wasn’t getting an answer.

I marked it as “Not support” because as far as I can tell, nothing is broken.

I have a question for the Accessibility Team. Is there an approved way of getting my question answered?

If you want to refer this to support be my guest. If you are telling me to open a thread on the support forum – please state that EXPLICITLY – and I will do so.

Again. Nothing is broken. I am asking for clarification of a portion of the Accessibility Manual for Themes (see the link above). Specifically, for the current definition of accessibility around links, and if “Sundance” meets that definition.

To my reading, it does not. But before I invest the time to switch/customize another theme, I would like clarification.

Also, if “Sundance” does meet the current definition, then the current definition is deficient and should be update.

Hello again, no need to post again. As I mentioned earlier, the MODLOOK tag for Staff attention and input has been added to this forum thread. Thanks for bringing up this issue.

  • Hi zendodeb –

We are happy to take a look (staff here). I will take a deeper look at this, because I don’t have the answer off hand. Watch for an update here.

  • Hello again –

I’ve heard back from our theme department. The Sundance theme will not meet the requirements because it is retired. Retired themes are not going to receive any design work, which is what’s needed to meet this requirement.

If you have more questions re: accessibility I am happy to pass those along or put you in touch via email.

    Best wishes!

OK Thanks for the quick response. Looks like I will be having to review available themes.

  • Thanks, @zendodeb. Let us know if you need more help.
