Question from followers
-
Here is a reoccurring question I receive:
When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I
get three e-mails with the same comment. Is
there any way you can remove people from that service?
Appreciate it!I will be happy to make a “post” to answer this. If there is a customization I can do in order to minimize this, please let me know and I will add the additional service if necessary (even if there is a cost involved). Love your site & thanks for your time!

Hi Jim!
When your readers click “Notify me of follow-up comments via email” — are they receiving three emails every single time a new comment is left? Are the three emails duplicates? Or do they contain a running thread with an additional comment added each time the email is received?
Are you receiving three duplicate emails that notify you that you’ve received comments?
I’m interested in hearing your answers about my questions above, as well as an other details. I want to make certain this isn’t a bug on our end.
While you cannot adjust your commenters’ settings after the fact, you could hide the “Notify me of follow-up comments via email” button altogether. If it seems to be more of a hinderance than a help to your readers, I suggest turning that function off. You can click Settings → Discussion, and scroll down the page to Follow Comments and adjust the box for “Show a ‘follow comments” option in the comment form.”
Looking forward to hearing from you, and helping to make your comments/readers lives less complicated! Thanks.

Hey & Thanks!
Based on what I’m getting, I would be led to understand they are receiving multiple copies rather than merely receiving the thread. What I do not know if they are receiving emails “every time” a thread is left.
While I am not receiving duplicate comment notification emails, I am receiving duplicates under “comments”–e.g. I will go through my “spam” folder, label some comments “not spam,” reply to these comments and thereby “approve” them, and then after a few days I will see the same comments in my spam folder again. The comments have a recent date, but they are verbatim the same comment . . . and no, I have never been abducted by grey space aliens who desire me to gestate their young . . . . lol!
I will be making the adjustment you advised under the “follow discussion” button; I’m slammed today so I will get it taken care of in the next 48 hours.
I really appreciate your response! I have been busy “selling” WordPress to some of my readers who desire to know the platform I’m using for my blog–I also have recommended the “pay” aspect of the site for convenience and security . . . . (no, no, please, I DO NOT want a commission . . . lolololol!!!)
Love the site & the service!
Jim

Ha! You should join our team here at WordPress.com! I like your spirit :)
Did you know that you can blacklist those annoying spammers?
In your Dashboard, click on Settings → Discussion Settings. Scroll toward to bottom of the page until you see: Comment Blacklist. Add any addresses you’d like in that box.
Please do let us know how the adjustments go with comment notifications. If things remain bothersome, drop us a line and we’ll do anything we’re able to assist.
Wishing you all best. Have a terrific day!
