Question: Has wordpress gone through yet another face lift?
-
The page doesn’t look like yesterday when I logged in, where I would see the stream of wordpress news and interactions with peoples’ comments. The interface has made it even more difficult to blog and where has the ‘explore topic’ button gone?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
It has! Please see https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2015/07/13/reader-refresh/ for details.
The explore topics link was removed but may be added back in the future. Not too many people have mentioned it so far, relative to other feedback we’re getting.

Not to be too negative but the new reader makes it really painful to go straight to a blog. I just keep going in circles trying to get there and then when I do get there I can’t recall how I got there.

@joegergen, a visit icon has been added and visit links now point to original posts.
@wpvins, there isn’t.

This is a completely serious question: Is this like a planned obsolescence thing where you’re trying to make WordPress.com so unusable that everyone swiches to WordPress.org? Because it’s worked for me and I’ll definitely switch to WordPress.org when I have more money, given how unusuable the site has become. However, if that isn’t the long term plan, maybe think about taking input from your users instead of breaking what wasn’t broken. :)

Ok, if you’re not trying to phase-out WordPress.com, then what are you doing? Are you trying to be Tumblr, work only on mobile, prevent longer-posts, what? Where can I go to see WordPress.com’s justification for these changes?

Ah. You’re appealing to mobile users. That may turn out to be a mistake, given that screens are becoming so big that mobile sites will likely end up being a short lived fad from the beginning to mid 2010s. Thanks for the feedback though!

Microblogging is to a large degree replacing long form blogging. Millennials are into packing devices with them wherever they go and communicating continually. I don’t think that there is any indication that mobile blogging will fade away any time soon. The indications are quite the opposite as it is desktop sales that are waning and mobile and tablet sales that are exploding.

@designsimply
Thanks. I think I can get used to the new reader – definitely. Especially as you guys seem to still be improving it.
