Question Marks appear at the end of sentences of my client’s blog post.
-
I have a client that is getting some strange question marks at the end of her sentences in her WordPress Blog. Here is an example:
Tell your story.?? When you get scared that you might say the wrong thing, speak from your heart and tell stories about the good work the organization has done.
Be honest and authentic.?? Don’t apologize for yourself, but be as real as you can be.????
Speak the truth. Don’t try to impress anyone by trying to talk about statistics or facts that you aren’t quite sure about.?? Just say what you know for sure. She isn’t putting these question marks in when she types into her blog, but they have appearing for about a month.
Anyone have a suggestion how to get rid of them?
Thanks!

Without being able to look at the actual post, I can only guess, but it may be that whatever program they are using for writing the posts is putting a non-HTML compliant code at the end of the sentences.
Could we have a link to one of the posts where this is happening?

They are using two spaces at the end of their sentences and the RSS seems to be having a problem with that. This is something new as in the past, if you put two spaces at the end of a sentence, or between words, one of them would be stripped out (standard for HTML – one space between words, and between sentences).
Have the person open the posts and remove the delete the extra spaces between sentences and everything should be fine.

I’m sorry this is not a wordpress.COM blog
any further questions will need to be directed
at the wordpress.ORG forum. http://wordpress.org/supportWordPress.com or WordPress.org ? The difference.

The double space at the end of sentences is a holdover from the old days of typewriters and mono-spaced type. There is a lot of debate about it, but with proportional-spaced fonts now days, few follow the two space between sentences rule anymore – if it actually was really a rule.

I answered it anyway. The likelihood of this question even getting a cursory look over at the .ORG forum is virtually zero.

It’s that bad over at the .ORG forum I have never been over there
because I’m to busy with researching for blog content or helping
out here… -
Thanks so much for answering! I really appreciate it. It’s a client’s and I don’t manage it. She just asked me to check out the problem. I guess I’m confused about the two different places. Is there two different forums?

Ok, I click the link and I know the difference now. Still a bit confusing. One forum would be nice. Where you could ask any questions.
But thanks again for the help!

One forum would confuse things since there are very real differences between what can be done on blogs hosted at wordpress.COM, and what people who are self-hosted, using the software from wordpress.ORG can do.

@tybrooks, if you come back to this thread, I would suggest that you tell your client to upgrade their WordPress to at least 2.3.3 due to security issues. It would actually be better to upgrade to at least 2.5.1, but 2.5.1 would bring a complete change to the admin area which may at least temporarily upset their apple cart. Everything is arranged different in 2.5.1 vs 2.3.x.
Just a suggestion.

Thanks, I shared that with her. And I better look at doing the same for mine.
Thanks again for your helpfulness.
