Question on "Stay" Theme
-
Hi After a long long wait, I was really pleased with the Stay theme. I was looking for a theme where the mail blog width was 900+ – ideal for a photoblog. Though stay was more targetted for hotel business, I was impressed with the layout and features for my photoblog. Was testing the same and had some quick questions.
The concerns am pointing out can be seen in the test blog – test00000000000.wordpress.com
1. I have not selected anything for primary menu and only have a custom top menu. But both are getting displayed. Is this by design or a bug ?
2. On WordPress Pages, I see there is option for a Primary Side bar and a secondary side bar. I would like to have just the secondary side bar so I can mimic the same to the blog layout. Unfortunately a search box is added even if I do not have any widgets on the primary side bar. Even if this is by design , would it be possible to have an option to turn off the primary side bar ?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Create a new blank menu with nothing in it and save. Assign that blank menu to the primary location and save.
-
The primary menu shows on post related pages (main posts page, categories, tags and archives pages). The secondary menu shows on static pages such as “about.”
-
Whoops, my bad. The primary shows on the left side of static pages and the secondary on the right side of static pages.
In general, WordPress.com stays pretty close to the original theme author’s design and once a theme is released, they typically don’t make design changes to it. To turn off the one sidebar isn’t as simple as it sounds. It requires new PHP scripts to be created and new styling done in CSS for the new page layout.

@thesacredpath – Thanks for ur inputs. The fix on the menu did work. The one on the primary sidebar for pages – i was hoping it was bug and could be fixed :)
Appreciate ur time and inputs, thanks ! -
Anyone know if this theme will be available for download / self-hosting? Have not found it among those themes yet…

@zigmainfo
Go to WordPress.ORG and look here > http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ If you cannot find it there the answer is there is no WordPress.ORG version of the theme. -
I just started my own blog using the stay theme but somehow i can’t make the home slider work. On my ‘home page’ i activated the home template but still it is not working. can somebody please help me?

Thanks for that timethief I have but I have to admit to being a real newbie at this and I guess there’s something I’m missing.
I have created a page, set it to be a static page, set it to be a Home under templates and created 3 pages with just a picture in and added then as pages under the home slider in customize but no dice.
I’ve managed to change the background and header text colours just to prove to myself that it’s updating.
I don’t see any assigned widgets and certainly no slider widget, wonder if that’s the problem. Must learn more but a little frustrated that the description either doesn’t explain correctly or assumes knowledge I don’t have…
Thanks again

This blog is wearing Clean Home http://bandwit.wordpress.com/
Please post an active link starting with http:// to the blog wearing Stay. -
The theme you refer has a theme description here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/stay/
live demo site http://staydemo.wordpress.com/You will need to follow the instructions to make the theme to look like the one in the demo. The demo is using the “Home page template” which cycles through select top level pages on your site. Create a page called for example “Home” and then set that page as the static front page for your site and create another page fro example “blog” for your posts to appear on.
The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page. To do that create two pages > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/Front page displays
__ Your latest postsA static page (select below)
Front page:
Posts page:Note: The theme has a featured page slider and image size is at least 960 wide. Individual post featured image is at least 920 wide.

Thanks for this, am getting through it but it shows a perfect example of my frustration with the documentation and the reality that I see.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page tells me to:
“Enable “Permalinks” to show the “page title” in the address, since /index.php?p=423 defeats the purpose of making a static front page.”
Clicking on “Permalinks” takes me to http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks where I’m told that:
“Choosing your permalink structure
In the Settings → Permalinks panel (Options → Permalinks before WordPress 2.5), you can choose one of the “common” structures or enter your own in the “Custom structure” field using the structure tags.”As hard as I look I cannot see a Settings -> Permalinks option, I see General, Writing etc up to Sharing then Polls but no Permalink alphabetically between these 2.
Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Apart from that I believe I’ve done what is required.
Would happily allow you access to show me the error of my ways…..

Ahaah!!
Tried this again with a different (new) blog and got the same result.
did some more reading and discovered that what I actually needed to do was to set up pages that have a Featured image. I was just adding an image not a Featured image as stated by andrewcpht here:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/homepage-slider?replies=6#post-1257106
Thanks for the help timethief, next problem is bound to be just around the corner…. :0)
My comments about the documentation still stand btw, going to be a hard and shallow learning curve…
