Question on: Subscription level required for adding BuddyPress to wordpress.com?

  Hello. :)

  I have been delighted with the options and results so far, whilst setting up my own little home online with wordpress. It is wonderful that so much quality is available for free, which is right up my street, as I live a very simple life, without a lot to spare financially.

  The one thing that has disappointed me, is that I thought I was able to set up a community through my site by adding BuddyPress, though I’ve now discovered this is not possible using wordpress.com on the free plan.

  I could probably just about stretch to affording the £4.50 per month Personal Plan, but having spent considerable time searching the documentation, I’ve been unable to find out if this would be sufficient to allow me to add the necessary plugins to install BuddyPress on my blog.

  Can someone in the know please confirm what level of subscription is necessary to implement my desires?

  Hi Platy, as far as I understand it, you would not be able to install BuddyPress on any WordPress.com blog (regardless of which plan you use). Instead you would need to set up a self-hosted WordPress website through a service such as the ones listed on this page:

  Thank you very much for your reply. :)

  That is a shame, as I thought I’d read elsewhere it could be possible with a paid upgrade. I’ll hold on a few days in case someone else arrives to indicate differently, otherwise it seems I’ll have to set up another free forum elsewhere, and link to it in my blog. Would have been much nicer to have it all fully integrated, but there are far more serious issues in life. ;)

  And unfortunately the time is simply not there to take on the full hosting responsibilities myself. Certainly at least, not at this early stage of development.
