Question re. domain transfer

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi
I am looking at starting an author website – just a page that allows me to link books to amazon (where I’ve published them), maybe blog an occassional post and build a readership with newsletters.

Several questions: I have a domain with Godaddy that runs out in 2023 – if I transfer it to WordPress as host, do I get a year on top of that?

What plan allows me to link my books to Amazon for sales?

What do you recommend for building what I need?

Do I need a specialised email to send newsletters / promos or can I use my outlook email?

How do I send newsletters and auto manage that?

    Thanks

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

  • Hello there,

Happy to help you with this.

I have a domain with Godaddy that runs out in 2023 – if I transfer it to WordPress as host, do I get a year on top of that?

This wouldn’t be possible, the domain transfer would just be a case of changing domain registrars.

What plan allows me to link my books to Amazon for sales?

At a minimum, because of the use of the custom domain, you would need a personal plan.

Please see this guide on how to use Amazon Affiliate Links: https://wordpress.com/support/adding-amazon-com-affiliate-links-to-your-wordpress-com-site/

What do you recommend for building what I need?

It depends on how you’d like the website to look – have you come across any inspiration? We’ll happily point you in the right direction.

Do I need a specialised email to send newsletters / promos or can I use my outlook email?

This is your choice – please see this guide on how to set up email addresses here for review: https://wordpress.com/support/add-email/

How do I send newsletters and auto manage that?

You may wish to use Mailchimp for that: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/mailchimp-block/

    I hope this all helps.
