Question regarding subdomain mapping

  • Unknown's avatar

If I already have a business plan on a certain domain. And I create a subdomain for that particular site, and then map it to another site so that I can have different content on the subdomain, do I have to pay for a business plan a second time to have access to the same features of the first site ?

I am aware I have to pay for a mapping subscription to be able to map a subdomain to another site. But do I also have to pay to get the same features of the business plan that I have on the initial site ?

    examples to clarify:

I have business plan on example.com

I want to create a subdomain called a.example.com that has different content such as a different logo, different background, and different content for the pages.

So from what I understood, to achieve that on wordpress.com, I have to map the subdomain to another site and pay the mapping subscription.

So I create a site called example123.wordpress.com and then upgrade it to a personal plan so that I can map a.example.com to it. So I do that.

Now the question is do I have the same features of the business plan that I have on example.com or do I have to pay for a business plan again ? And if I do have to pay for a business plan, is there a way to achieve what I want to achieve without paying for a business plan again ? (what I want to achieve being a subdomain or a subdirectory with different content).

    Thank you.

Hi there, in short, if you want your subdomain site to have the same features as the WordPress.com business plan on your domain site, you’d need to purchase the business plan for the subdomain site as well.

If something isn’t clear in my response, please post back here.

I’d also recommend that if you have a WordPress.com website with a business plan or higher, the best thing to do would be to contact the Support team directly. With your plan, you’re eligible for 24/7 live chat and support by email when you are logged in with the account that owns the upgrade.

    Hi there!

If I already have a business plan on a certain domain. And I create a subdomain for that particular site, and then map it to another site so that I can have different content on the subdomain, do I have to pay for a business plan a second time to have access to the same features of the first site ?

Yes. As @justjennifer confirmed above, if you want a different site with the same set of features (like the ability to upload custom themes and install plugins), you’ll need the same plan (in this case, the WordPress.com Business plan), purchased separately for the separate site(s). Features from the initial site will not carry over to a site on the subdomain because on WordPress.com, the paid plans are valid on a per-site basis.

So regardless of which domain/subdomain you use, if the sites are different, and you want the same features, you’ll need the same plan on both of the sites.

It’s worth noting that you can have different plans on different sites in case you don’t need all of the same features. But since you mentioned needing the same set of features, you’d need the same plan on both sites.

If you have more questions, please go to https://wordpress.com/help/contact to start a live chat with us. Your current Business plan gives you access to 24/7 live chat support so feel free to take advantage of the faster support.

    Regards
