Question regarding the domain name

  Dear all

  We are starting a venture with a partner and we’ll be using WordPress for the first version of the website. At the same time, we’re developing a web app that we’ll host through Heroku. We’d like to know, for the moment we’ll switch, how it will go for the domain name. Do we have to buy it back?

  I’d like to clarify if you plan to use WordPress.com or the WordPress installation with a separate host?

  A WordPress.com site will be live by default as soon as it is registered. You can adjust the privacy setting though, of course. Here’s How: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

  Sorry let me clarify the approach we want to have:
  1. start a wordpress.com type of website ;
  2. later on, use our own website, but with the same name domain as in 1

  If you register a custom domain, that is yours, and you can use it on a different platform through editing the DNS or transferring the registration.

  You could make a WordPress.com site with a custom domain, for example, mycustomdomain.org, and then later decide not to use WordPress.com. No big deal. You can take the domain with you.
