  If a domain is blog.abc.com has cname blog4555.wpcomstaging.com and website says this on visit

  Something unexpected happened while accessing this website. It looks like it doesn’t have an active domain connection upgrade to link the requested domain name to the WordPress.com site.

  My question is that can this domain i.e blog4555.wpcomstaging.com be taken by someone else or no?

  WP.com: Yes
  Jetpack: No
  Correct account: Yes

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

If you are receiving this message (“It looks like it doesn’t have an active domain connection upgrade…”) it means that the site on WordPress.com does not have a paid plan and/or the site owner hasn’t added the necessary domain connection to the site per this guide: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/

  Domain’s that end in .wpcomstaging.com or .wordpress.com are free subdomains that are provided to all sites on WordPress.com and are controlled by the site owner.   So if a third person wants can he/she take that subdomain? i.e *.wpcomstaging.com?

  If the websites shows that error?

  Domain’s that end in .wpcomstaging.com or .wordpress.com are automatically assigned to a specific site/site owner and can only be controlled by the owner of the site. No one else can “take” or otherwise use one of these subdomains owned by another site owner.
