Questions about business plans.

I’m really confused about the Business plan and your rules, I have a few questions that need answering.

    1. Can I use my own domain registered elsewhere with the paid MONTHLY business plan?

    2. Do I get SSL certificate with the MONTHLY Business plan?

    3. Why can I not install woocommerce and take payments with a Business plan?

    4. Can I use paidmembership Pro plugin on a business plan and take payments?

    5. Can I run a affiliate system like WordPress affiliate manager plugin to pay commissions to members who refer paying members on the Business Plan?

    6. It says you can install plugins, but it also says you can’t take payments, it’s really confusing, this business plan is not cheap, why would you restrict taking payments?

    6. What size database do you get on the business plan?

    7. Is there any inode limits to be aware of?

    8. What else am I restricted from doing when using plugins, I already understand the restricted plugins not allowed to be used.

    9. Can I pay my monthly fee myself without having auto renewal on?

If support can help answer these questions as there is no link to live sales chat that I can ask these questions too unless I actually purchase?

  • Hello there!

Definitely happy to help you with this!

    1. Can I use my own domain registered elsewhere with the paid MONTHLY business plan?

Yes you can, this can be connected to WordPress.com as per these steps here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/

This is actually free to do with the business plan.

    2. Do I get SSL certificate with the MONTHLY Business plan?

    Yes, absolutely: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/https-ssl/

    3. Why can I not install woocommerce and take payments with a Business plan?

You should be able to do this on the business plan – is there a site you’re working on whereby you’re facing issues?

    4. Can I use paidmembership Pro plugin on a business plan and take payments?

    Yes you can indeed.

    5. Can I run a affiliate system like WordPress affiliate manager plugin to pay commissions to members who refer paying members on the Business Plan?

    Yes you can indeed.

    6. What size database do you get on the business plan?

The details on the server environment can be found here: https://wordpress.com/support/php-environment/

In terms of size of database, this would grow as the site grows. :)

    7. Is there any inode limits to be aware of?

Currently, we do not have an inode limit.

    8. What else am I restricted from doing when using plugins, I already understand the restricted plugins not allowed to be used.

In terms of restrictions – you can do pretty much which ever plugin allows you to do. We do have a list of incompatible plugins however: https://wordpress.com/support/plugins/incompatible-plugins/ – which is something to keep in mind.

    9. Can I pay my monthly fee myself without having auto renewal.

You can set the monthly plan to manually renew, however, I’d probably recommend against this in order to keep the site running as it should.

This sounds like quite an ambitious project, which is super exciting! What are you looking to build – it sounds like a membership style site, with the ability to encourage new users via an affiliate program? Is that quite right?

We do have a Built By Service as well: https://wordpress.com/built-by-wordpress-com/ which may be of interest to you!

    hi aleone89,

yes my site is very ambitious, so you’re saying I don’t have any database restrictions as such? Because I wouldn’t want my site to crash, it’s important I keep my site running smoothly so I can make sure I can always keep track of commissions.

I’m trying to keep my plugin usage low despite planning a feature packed website so that my site loads fast.

How would you rate wordpress.com business hosting? Would I run into any problems if my site became extremely busy? I understand you have unlimited bandwidth and don’t restrict visitors as such but is this real? I don’t want to run a site and run into problems further down the line with people not being able to access my site?

how is the support with wordpress.com while I know how to setup a WordPress site my coding knowledge is zero, if I ever had to change code I would possibly need help to identity an issue. What type of support can I get? I love wordpress but people say the sites break every 3 months or so, is this true? I have never experienced issues with wordpress as such so I’m still keen to use it.

I just want to know I choose a good host that will offer support if needed without leaving me in the lurch having to close my site down.

it’s important I build a site on a good host and I looked at WordPress.com because I’ll be using WordPress.

if you want to view my business idea you can view a landing page at http://www.profitdaddy.net that explains briefly the project with a video on the landing page also. Maybe this would give you a better understanding of what I’m trying to achieve and the importance of having a reliable host so my site doesn’t break, it’s important not to have database restrictions also because I don’t want a limit on how many members I can have.

    Thanks for your answers aleone89.

    James

    Thanks for your detailed reply.

WordPress.com Business hosting includes Jetpack Backup which automatically makes a copy of your site, allowing you to restore it to the exact state it was in at any previous point in time. You can read more about it here:

I’m trying to keep my plugin usage low despite planning a feature packed website so that my site loads fast.

    That sounds very reasonable.
