Questions about categories

  Hi

  I have two questions about categories:

  1. How do I delete a category?
  2. How many categories can I have?

  1. Posts > Categories: hover over category name, click Delete.
  2. As many as you like.

  Notes:
  • If a post has been filed only under the category you delete, it will automatically be reassigned to the category you’ve set as your default post category in Settings > Writing.
  • You can’t delete the default category: if that’s the one you wish to delete, you must first set another one as the default.
  • You have duplicated some categories as tags. You must never do that: it makes no difference to the WP global tag pages or to search engines, plus you’ll run into technical problems (if the same word or phrase has been used as both a category and a tag, it might refuse to be edited or deleted).

  Thank you for the answer, I have succesfully deleted a category now.
  The reason I asked how many categories I can have is that only 10 show on my page. I cant find the others. Where are they?

  You’re welcome.
  Have you assigned the others to published posts? A category won’t show up in the Categories widgets unless there’s at least one published post filed under that category. (Makes sense: categories are the main groups of your posts, and there’s no point displaying a group of zero posts.)
