Questions About Moving from Self-Hosted Site Back to WordPress.com

    I blogged at WordPress.com in 2010 for a while, then set it aside. In 2018, I decided to get serious and went the self-hosted way. It’s been pretty much problematic the whole time as I just want to write, not be a technical expert.

    So I’ve decided to come back to WordPress.com. However, I’m not sure which plan is best: Premium or the Business. Plus, I have other questions.

    Is there any way I can speak or chat with someone about this…or am I left with needing to take the time to write out all my questions here in the forums? It’s going to be laborious if I do…but whatever I have to do. I’m done with the self-hosting. It’s just too difficult for me to maintain.

    I’m not sure which plan is best: Premium or the Business.

    It really depends on you and what are your plans for the site. If you only want to blog, I’d say plan Premium is perfect. A quick overview of some of the perks of the plan are as follows:

    • Access to all of our Premium Theme Collection at no extra cost. Even if you’ve already chosen a theme, you may want to change to a different one in the future so having this option available is still a great plus! Refreshing your theme is a great way of giving your site an update every once in a while.
    • Additional design features include not only Custom CSS (which gives you a lot of options to customize your site).
    • Access to additional storage space for all your media and content.
    • Immediate approval to our WordAds program allowing you to earn income from the ads displayed on your site.
    • VideoPress support allowing you to host videos directly on your site without having to use an outside service like Youtube or Vimeo.

    Plan Business is very similar to a self-hosted site, you can upload plugins, third-party themes, you can see all the features here:

    These forums are a way to reach us when you’re on a free plan, however, you should also be able to access chat when purchasing the plan, if you want to discuss your options. You’ll see that option directly in your cart.

    Thanks, Fresatomica. Your information was very helpful. I signed up for the Business plan today. I will note, however, that I was not able to actually chat with anyone until AFTER I completed the transaction. I DID attempt to get help PRIOR to this, but maybe it was just me and I couldn’t find it.

    Anyway, I had already pretty much made up my mind that the business plan was the best option, so as it turns out, all is good and it didn’t matter.

    But I’m able to chat NOW! LOL! This was the number one reason I chose to come back to WordPress.com. I’ve started my domain transfer and had an excellent start-up chat with one of your Happiness Engineers who helped me decide my initial strategy for moving my website. VERY pleased. So thanks again!
