Questions about the new Profile Theme

  • Unknown's avatar

I have several questions. All three of them boil down to “the Profile Theme is not working as I expected it to work when I bought it”. I need to find out if what I want is possible in the new Theme.

Some of these, I can “live without” but the first one is a deal breaker; the theme I use/buy *has* to have this capability. (Thankfully WordPress.com has a 30 day refund policy. Thank you for that! You guys rock!

    1. If you look at my blog and scroll down to the bottom you’ll see that I was able to get the Post Slider working. I have two “test” posts there. If you click on either image when it appears, the embedded URL href will take you to the post within my blog.

What I would like to be able to do is to add an image to the slider that would direct viewers to my two other websites, both of them WordPress sites: http://linedancetutor.com and http://txcowboydancerdesigns.com.

Is there a way to do this? I have the CSS Customization Upgrade.

    2. The “more” quick tag is not working on the featured page of the home page. Take a look, my “test” of the more tag is easy to see on the homepage. How do I make this work? I want it to work like the demo on the Organics site: http://organicthemes.com/demo/profile/

    3. Do any of the shortcodes featured on the Organics website work on the WordPress.com version? Here is the link: http://organicthemes.com/demo/profile/shortcodes/

    4. Are the Portfolio (http://organicthemes.com/demo/profile/portfolio/) and Site Archive templates (http://organicthemes.com/demo/profile/site-archives/) shown in the organic version available in the WordPress.com version?

    5. The comments on the blog entries on the Organics Version are shown “collapsed” as a single button instead of being displayed in their entirity (see example at http://organicthemes.com/demo/profile/blog/) Is there a way I can do this on my blog?

    6. Can I add text menu links to the sections of my WordPress.com blog in the footer. I know that with the Organics version, this is possible using the CSS codes. Can I do that with the WordPress.com version?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

    Cheers!

    Hi there,

The version of the Profile theme that we have here at WordPress.com is somewhat different from the version that Organic Themes offers for self-hosted WordPress sites. You can find a description of the WordPress.com Profile theme and how it works here: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/profile/

If you have questions about the WordPress.com version of the Profile theme that aren’t answered on that page, you can ask the theme author directly in the Profile support forum here:

    http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/profile

What I would like to be able to do is to add an image to the slider that would direct viewers to my two other websites, both of them WordPress sites: http://linedancetutor.com and http://txcowboydancerdesigns.com.

The post slider is specifically for creating a gallery that links to the post where each image is from. It isn’t designed to link to other websites. There isn’t a way to change links like that using CSS.

If that’s for sure a deal-breaker for you, you can go to Store > My Upgrades to cancel your purchase for a full refund. However, you might want to consider other ways you can link to those sites. For example, you could create Image Links at the bottom of the page (instead of having the post slider) and link those images to your other sites.
