Questions From A Beginner

I’ve recently started a blog which is acting as a website/information page for a local swimming club. I have two basic questions about the way that wordpress works – i have had a search through the forums but couldn’t find the answers to all of my questions.

    1) Why doesn’t my blog show “www.” before its address?
    2) I registered the blog on google about 4 months ago and it is still not found on a search – even when the full name is typed in, any ideas why i can’t be found on search engines?
other than that I am very happy with using the tools and think WP is a great site.

    Thanks SimonW

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No wordpress.COM site will have the WWW in the URL. The name of the blog, in this case, didcotswimmingclub is what replaces the WWW subdomain.

Also, WWW is completely passe these days and virtually no one is using it (unless they are really old domains/sites that have been around forever such as http://www.apple.com, http://www.adobe.com, etc.

You are on Google. They have indexed 23 pages, but with a static site such as yours, it can take 6 months to a year before your site will rank up higher in the search engines. Type the following into the google search box and you will get 23 entries:

    site:http://didcotswimmingclub.wordpress.com/

If I type “didcot swimming club” into the google search box (without the quotes) you are at the top of page 2. The reason others are above you (on the first page) is that their sites have higher search engine ranking than yours and have probably been around for a longer period of time.

Thanks for the reply, all makes perfect sense. I’ll just have to keep posting news from the club and wait for the site to be noticed so that we can attract new members.
