Questions I Have About Monetizing My Blog

    Well after some research, I’ve learned that ads on a blog really aren’t that viable of a money-making strategy, unless I plan on working really hard on my blog for a while. As of now, I fully intend on keeping my blog updated, and the way it is now. I do however have questions about the ways I’d like to monetize my blog, and I’d like to run them by the support forum.

    1) If you can check my blog, are my posts unique? I keep reading that only truly unique and good content will bring in viewers, and I don’t know how my posts look. My blog is mainly about bringing the best features of nature to a blog, and that usually involves posting other content from other websites.

    2) How reasonable is selling custom t-shirts, coffee mugs, etc…? I actually was thinking yesterday about designing really cool looking shirts that don’t just advertise my website, but look damn good too. Something that someone would want to buy just so they can wear it, rather than to show that they support my website.

    3) Next Tuesday I’ll be receiving advertisements for my blog, and I plan on going to hang them up around some local parks and cities. Has anyone else tried these physical forms of advertising, and how did they work out for you? I’m hoping that it brings in more viewers than I’m getting now. If not a lot of viewers, maybe at least it brings in 1 or 2 consistent viewers.

    4) How long have some of you been working on your blog to make money? How has it worked out for you? What channels did you market your websites on?

    Well that’s all I can think of for now, I appreciate it in advance if anyone can answer them.

    Thanks!

    1) honestly, you’d have to pay people to do an informed analysis on whether or not your posts are unique/commercial. And the median amount people I know are charging is $3500.

    2) You may be incredibly talented but unless you’re also talented in marketing, you can expect 0-10$ per month

    3) I’ve made $2000 from this in six years.

    @raincoaster

    About marketing. I’m really young and new to this whole blogging process, and I’m extremely motivated to market my product. I honestly don’t see the money all the time, I’m more interested in learning how the whole thing works, and I actually find marketing pretty interesting. I like to learn how people work, and how to influence the masses.

    How effective is becoming an active member in blogging communities? I’ve read in a few books that leaving helpful comments and messages on others’ blogs can pull many viewers, but I have yet to see any help from what I’ve done on other blogs already.

    Why haven’t you started a marketing degree, then?

    The kinds of questions you’re asking are the kind I ask $200 to answer. You can wait here for other answers, or you can google. But remember, the older the answer, the less likely it relates to the current situation. Stuff that’s more than two years old really has to be taken with a grain of salt.

    Ugh. It really IS friday night.

    $200 an HOUR to answer.

    So yeah, there’s money to be made in social media. IF you’ve been in it since 2002 or ca otherwise prove you’re an expert.
