Questions on moving multiple wordpress sites

  • Unknown's avatar

I have a server with multiple wordpress installs. Three are standalonoe, and 1 is a multi-site install. I am going to lay out a fail number of questions.

The database for them, is on a separate server.

I have my own domains for all 4. So, I don’t need any free domains, I would just need to know how to upload the certificates for them.

One site is used as a stream for a campus radio station.

I suspect I need a separate account for each site, at $300. Would that be the same for the multi-site I have? So, that would be $1200 total, for all 4 sites, yearly?

Who would take care of security, and things such as malware scanning?

Would I be able to set up whatever users I want? The multi-site is used by a couple professors, and their students.

I’ll leave off here, as these are probably enough questions for now.

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

  • Hey there!

    Thanks for your great questions!

I have my own domains for all 4. So, I don’t need any free domains, I would just need to know how to upload the certificates for them.

No need to upload your own certificates for your domains, actually. At WordPress.com, we include automatic SSL Encryption with your hosting – once your domains are connected to your sites, we’ll take care of the rest.

I suspect I need a separate account for each site, at $300. Would that be the same for the multi-site I have? So, that would be $1200 total, for all 4 sites, yearly?

Each independent site on WordPress.com does need its own hosting plan, that’s correct. If your sites have a variety of feature needs, where some are simpler and don’t require the use of plugins or third party themes, you could consider a smaller plan for those. We also offer some great discounts on multi-year plans – for example, if you purchase a 3-year Creator (also called Business) plan instead of a 1-year, the cost per-site is $630 billed every three years, saving you the cost of almost an entire year on the 1-year plan!

You can check out all our plans and their pricing for different billing frequencies here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Who would take care of security, and things such as malware scanning?

At WordPress.com, we have a dedicated team and built-in tools that handle security and malware scanning for you, so you can focus on building and managing your website. More on that here:

Definitely! We don’t restrict your users here at WordPress.com, so you can invite as many users to the site as you need, using the default WordPress user roles, or custom roles on plugin-enabled sites.

I’ll send you a quick email to connect directly in case more questions come up, but I hope this helps for now!
