Questions on Personal plan
-
Hello,
I have the below questions for the personal plan package:
– can I add multiple domains to a site? I also own those domain names from different domain registrars
– subdomain management– is this avail. and are there any limitations on the number of subdomains I can assign to a site?
– are there any limitations to which 3rd party plugins/extentions to install to the site in this plan?
– any limitations to installing themes?
– Tasks of maintenance of DB & servers to be latest & updated- all to be handled by your team?
– I have 2 existing wordpress sites running on a private server, what are the steps in migrating old sites over from other servers?
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

Everything you ask about is covered by WordPress support documents. It doesn’t sound like the Personal plan would be sufficient for you though.
https://wordpress.com/pricing/– can I add multiple domains to a site? I also own those domain names from different domain registrars
If you want all these domains to point to the same site.
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/– subdomain management– is this avail. and are there any limitations on the number of subdomains I can assign to a site?

– are there any limitations to which 3rd party plugins/extentions to install to the site in this plan?
Yes. You can’t. You would need a Business plan for this.
– any limitations to installing themes?
Yes you can install only WordPress.com themes. To install any external theme you would need a Business plan.
– Tasks of maintenance of DB & servers to be latest & updated- all to be handled by your team?
Yes all of that would be taken care of by WordPress.com.

I have tagged this for staff input in case I have missed something. -
Hi @kevingleephoto,
Just let me know if you need any clarification on the above. Just to reiterate, you’ll need a Business plan or higher to add third-party themes and plugin. You can review plan features and pricing here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
I hope that helps and please reach out again if you have any further questions.

Hi, thanks I have a few more to validate:
– for sub-domains management, will this work only in with Business plan? if not, what are the other plans ?
– could you tell me if the below free theme is considered to be inside/part of WordPress.com theme or not (ie. 3rd party)?
I have several running from this theme, that’s why I ask, thanks
regards, K

You can use a subdomain on any plan with a custom domain.
Yes, Workality Lite is a third-party theme which can be installed if you have a Business plan or higher. Only themes found in our themes showcase under Appearance → Themes are considered first-party.
Please keep in mind, we can only provide limited support for third-party themes and plugins, and you can learn more about that here: https://wordpress.com/support/plugins/third-party-plugins-and-themes-support/
I hope that helps and please reach out again if you have any further questions.

staff-sheva Am I correct in thinking that to use the Workality theme on a subdomain site as well as the main site would require the purchase of an additional Business plan?
-
@themagicrobot Yes, if the user plans to create a second WordPress.com site with a subdomain and wants to use a third-party theme, this would require a Business plan.
To put it another way, they could have their main site
example.comon a Personal plan using the Twenty Twenty Two theme and still create a subdomain ofsomething.example.comwith another site. If the site with the subdomain is to use the Workality Lite theme, it would need the Business plan. For both sites to use the theme, then they would need a Business plan for both. It’s worth noting that you can also create a subdomain for external sites, such as Tumblr.

Hi Just more question:
Is there a way in your platform to download the whole instance (every file needed) into a zip or a compressed file?
I ask in case I may need to migrate this site from here to another server to run the WP site, I would need the required files to do this.
And does it matter that it’s on a personal plan now(free license) in order to do this?
-
So the files would be your uploads and your data. We don’t have a mechanism to download them together as a zip, but you can surely download them separately. That’s at wordpress.com/export
If you have a business plan, you could potentially install a different backup plugin and use that, too.
Do bear in mind, by the way, our hosting includes managed maintenance, security, and direct support with paid plans. The free software does not include any of that, so if you move, just note you’ll need to take care of those things or find a service provider that handles them for you.
Hoping this helps!

What if I was in Personal or Premium plan to start with? is there a way to have a ‘bundled lot’ exported in order to make the site migration more efficient?
-
For all our site (except sites on our Business and eCommerce plans) you would be able to use the following steps to export your site:
Upgrading to the Personal or Premium plans would use the option I linked above, and do not offer any other options.
If you upgrade to our Business or Ecommerce plans, that would allow you to do “one-click” migrations so you can move an exact copy of your site between hosts.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
