Questions re porting from Blogger to WordPress
-
Since April 2011, I have maintained two blogs on Google Blogger: https://www.leithpeterson.ca and https://www.counterpoise.ca. I pay for my custom domain renewals and third-party hosting via a local internet service provider in a city in Ontario, Canada. Have Google Analytics set up for both sites. I have not set up any sites on WordPress yet, but am looking into porting both my blogs over to WordPress, as two separate sites. Have done quite a bit of research into this, which has led me to conclude it would be best to get advice from the forum before I move to WordPress, particularly since I already have my custom domains, third-party hosting. and Google Analytics set up on Blogger. It looks like the Business Plan might be the best one for me, but I am still looking into this. I have a fairly limited amount to spend on this, but I also do not want to be hassled with setting up and maintaining the sites. Any advice you can provide would be appreciated.
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi there!
I would give WordPress a try first before upgrading! You can import your Blogger content on the free plan so you can try it all out before you decide to upgrade.
When you sign up for a new site, we give you a free subdomain (*.wordpress.com) that you can use to start building your new site.
Here’s a guide that will help you migrate your Blogger site to WordPress.com:

Note that you will need a paid plan at the time you want to connect your domain to the site, but you may not need a Business plan if you can get the same functionality using what’s already built into WordPress.com. You can compare the different plan levels here:

I hope that helps! Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the information. As mentioned, I pay for my custom domain names and third-party hosting through a local provider. However, this provider just hosts my blogs and nothing else. In other words, they do not have managed services such as web design. All your paid plans involve “in-class hosting” so am I required to cancel my current hosting in order to join these plans? It appears from looking at your instructions it is OK to continue to pay for my custom domains through my current provider, but I am not clear on the hosting aspect.
I read somewhere I am better off choosing WordPress website names that are not the same as the current names of my Blogger sites when creating my WordPress sites. This is because it could cause problems when I transfer over my custom domains from Blogger to WordPress. Is this correct?

Yes, our plans include hosting – including the free option I shared above.
Since you’re new to WordPress, you can try out the free version and import your content now and give it a spin. If you find that you really like using WordPress and if you want to switch the WordPress site to use your custom domain (your content would remain the same), you can upgrade at that time.
But to make sure we’re talking about the same thing here, can you let me know what your domains are now? Once we have that information, we’ll be better able to advise.

My domain names are
and
(The original Blogger names were leithpeterson.blogspot.com and counterpoise2.blogspot.com)
The reason why I have not started any WordPress sites yet is I need some coding added to my Blogger blog due to a back end alignment problem. I do not want to port my blogs over until this problem is fixed. I am just making arrangements for a computer tech to come here to fix this.

Thanks for that! You can use your domains here at WordPres.com when you’re ready to make the switch.
In the meantime, you can build your site up using our free site address and add your domain to it later.
Let us know if you have any questions or need help with anything else.
