Questions regarding blog title, url address, and redirecting traffic
-
At the onset here’s my blog info: http://youmightbethatguy.wordpress.com/
I know that you can update your username or change the “nickname” that appears on your posts. However, I may be changing the name of my blog and was wondering if there was any way other than just creating a new blog and/or account to alter your blog’s url address.
If I do create a new account, is there a way other than posting a link to my new blog for viewers to be directed to my new site (i.e. an auto-redirect or something along those lines)? I’m averaging quite a few views each day so I would like my readers to be able to find me on my new blog. I’m open to any suggestions…
Thanks for your help in advance!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You cannot edit an existing URL for a blog here.
You do not have to create another account for the new blog. Go to http://wordpress.com/ while logged in and at the upper left, you can add more blogs to your existing account.
There is no redirect for wordpress.COM to wordpress.COM.
Also remember that if you switch to a new blog URL, any search engine page rank you have built will go back to zero. You will be starting again from scratch, so most likely your daily page views is going to drop considerably for a while. You will be missing all the search engine hits.
Leaving a post on the old blog with a link to the new blog is the only way, and you will want to set the old blog to block search engines at settings > privacy or it will compete with your new blog and the search engines hate duplicate content and will slash page rank on both blogs.

As a follow-up…
With regards to changing the privacy settings, will the page ranks be immediately (or soon thereafter) affected when the link to the new site is posted? If possible, I would like to have some transition time where readers can find my original site, see the link to the new one, and then begin to follow me on the new site without any adverse impact to either site’s page rank. I assume, however, that I take the risk of the loss in page rank immediately on both sites…

It will take about three to six months for the old site to disappear from the Google search results. At Yahoo, they will likely never disappear. Yahoo never seems to remove anything from their search results.

Thanks for the extremely helpful advice thesacredpath!
As an aside, good luck in Hawaii. I have spent quite a bit of time in Oahu (although never the Big Island) and have enjoyed every minute there. You’ve got some really great pictures posted.
