Questions Regarding Buying Domain Name

I am going to do the domain name upgrade in a couple weeks and I want to make sure I have everything covered before I do that. I made a mistake when I originally set my blog up having a different address than the name of the blog. The name of my blog is not available and I need to come up with something else – I think I know what I will use, but not 100% sure and I need to decide that first.

I know from reading the forums that I should get the privacy option so my address & phone number are not published. I also know not to do this on a weekend, especially a holiday weekend.

From what I can tell, the only real drawback is going back to square one with search engines.

I have found the answers to most of questions but I am not sure what happens to my blog articles that reference another one of my articles – do I have to go back & change to the new blog address or is that all automatically taken care of?

Am I missing anything else that I should know?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. In a nutshell, you don’t need to update your links.

When you get the domain mapping upgrade by following all the steps in the support documentation, all your old URLs that begin with __.wordpress.com will automatically redirect to your new domain name (for example __.com), which will be your new address. Also, your media files will still be at __.files.wordpress.com (__ being your blog’s name).

Does that answer your question? :-)

On a sidenote, I find it better to use relative links (for example: /2010/01/01/post/ instead of __.wordpress.com/2010/01/01/post) as it prevents self-pingbacks.

That is what I was looking for Airodyssey, thank you very much! I appreciate the tip on links – the self pingbacks are a pain!
