Quirk with the new notifications screen
-
I came across a strange quirk with the new notifications. When I click on one of the notifications in order to answer it, a “up” and “down” arrow appears in the top right corner. With these I can switch to the previous or next notification.
The thing is, if I click several times on the down arrow and then click the “up” arrow very fast to get back to the most recent notification, the system has a hiccup and suddenly only shows “No input file specified.” and no more notifications. → Screenshot.
Only reloading the page helps to fix it.
OS: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Browser: Firefox 35.0Cheers

Hiya Martin,
Are you still able to replicate this? I’m trying on my own instance of FF and I haven’t been able to quite yet. I’m got a touchpad though so it’s entirely possible that I’m not able to click back and forth quickly enough, but I wanted to check and make sure that it’s still an issue.

Yep, I’m still able to replicate it. I noticed it’s not even necessary to click on the “down” arrow and then “up” again. Just some repeated clicks on the “down” arrow and the notifications window shows “No input file specified.”

OK, I’m back.
I was able to replicate that error twice in a row yesterday, but now I’m having problems getting it to do it’s little trick. Our developers have been trying and they can’t get it to either (though in looking through this they have found a few other little bugs which they’ve squished, so thanks!).
Are you still able to get the No Input File Specified error? If so, have you noticed anything in common the times you’ve gotten it (besides clicking quickly through the notifications?). For example, had you just gotten post likes? Comments? A follower? Some combination of the three? Were you on a specific page when you opened notifications?
Thanks for taking a look!

I can still replicate the “No Input File Specified” error. To be honest, it’s quite easy to do so.
I’ve cleared Cache & Cookies by restarting my browser, logged into http://wordpress.com, opened the notifications tab, clicked on the first notification and finally perfomed three consecutive fast clicks on the “down” arrow. That’s all it needs to get the “No Input File Specified” error.

That was amongst the things that I tried in the first place. I went ahead and gave it a try again, and I’m still not able to replicate it now.
I’m going to keep trying going forward, but this seems to be happening quite intermittently. I’m not sure what the common link is, but if we can figure it out we will definitely get it fixed!
Thanks again for bringing this to our attention.

Hi Martin,
Our developers and I have continued to work on replicating this issue (and in doing so have continued to find other small quirks, so again, that is nice!). None of us have been able to get that error to appear after that first day when I did.
Are you still able to make it happen? If so, these days is it an every time you try it will happen type thing or only intermittently?
Also, do you have any add-ons installed in your FF browser, by any chance? I’d like to try and replicate your settings as closely as possible (I don’t have an ubuntu box, but I can get close with everything else).
Thanks!

Good news. I gave it another go and I am delighted to say that I can’t reproduce the “No Input File Specified” error any more. Seems like you have fixed it. :-D
Thanks for all the work you and the developers put in. Consider this topic resolved. :)
Cheers
