Quotation mark problem in the Broadsheet theme
-
Hi, I have just noticed that the Broadsheet theme I have just bought is not properly showing any of the double quotation marks at the end of sentences in any of my articles, or even the second double quotation mark around phrases. There is just a kind of greyed-out single quote mark. This is a big problem, so I hope there is an easy fix for this. Many thanks.

Thanks for the report! I’ve passed this along to our theme developers. I’ll let you know as soon as this is resolved!

Thanks very much. I hope this happens quickly as I am a journalist and it looks very bad for me to have my articles looking like this, and it could even be problematic in other ways as it is very hard to see when a people are being quoted. How long could it take for this to be resolved? I am wondering if I might have to go back to a free theme for a while, which would be very unfortunate as I have done a lot of work to fit everything around Broadsheet now, and was initially very happy with it. Best, Annette

Hi Annette,
I’m afraid I don’t have an exact turnaround time for you. However, I’ll be sure to update you as soon as this is fixed. In the meantime, we can fix this without switching themes. I’ve temporarily added a Custom Design trial to your account. You should now be able to switch fonts under Appearance -> Customize -> Fonts. It looks like this is only happening with the default theme font. Can you try switching to another font temporarily while we’re fixing the issue?

Hi, I am really struggling with Typekit. I’ve created an account and chosen and synced some fonts, but the kit remains unpublished and I don’t see a Publish button anywhere on their Kit Editor. Have contacted their support. Best, Annette

Have made the font change in the customizer, but am finding it hard to tell if it has been implemented. The problem is still there, so maybe I have missed a step. But I don’t think so. Thanks.

I foolishly didn’t check which was the default theme font before making the change. Which font is used by default on Broadsheet?
-
I see that the default font is a serif font, and I have chosen a new one that is sans serif; but it doesn’t seem to be activating. I wonder if I need to do something further. Thanks.

Hi!
It looks like you’re using the Advanced TypeKit function as shown here:
https://time2transcend.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=custom-fonts
You’ll need to do a bit more if you want the TypeKit functionality to work. I believe you’ll just need to specify the selectors as explained here:
http://help.typekit.com/customer/portal/articles/6840-using-typekit-with-wordpress-com
The Open Sans font you chose should fix the error.
An alternative is to stop using the TypeKit features and select from our pre-installed fonts. You can do that by removing the ID from the first link I posted. Then, when you navigate to Appearance -> Customize -> Fonts, you should see several items to choose from.
Just a note, once you remove the TypeKit code, you will not be able to add it back in the future. We’ve removed that functionality from WordPress.com for new users.

I guess I’ll have to go for your second suggestion as I am very pushed for time… Thanks.

Many thanks, Jeremey; the second option has worked. It’s fixed the quote problem, and was much easier for me than the Typekit option. I know too little about coding to handle Typekit just now!

When I make the fonts for headings choice, what do the drop-down numbers refer to? Many thanks!

Yep! The drop-down will help you change the text size. Glad you were able to get the font customization to work! I’ll keep you posted regarding the fix for the quotation marks.
