Radcliff theme/Featured Image Size

  • Unknown's avatar

The featured image is supposed to be 2000 x 1500, according to the themes instructions, but it keeps cropping the photo. I have tried making it 2000X1500, I have tried making it smaller and/or larger than that and the issue still remains. It takes off a chunk of the top and bottom. I have to be missing something and I can’t figure out what. Any ideas?

    hi,

I also found a similar issue (featured image crop different) on this ticket.

featured images are going to change shapes depending on your theme and screen size, and in some cases (like in Canard) they’ll change based on where they fit in a lineup, too.

Some themes will pretty consistently crop to a certain shape, so you could consider using that. Just bear in mind Twitter and Facebook and other social sharing systems tend to crop preview images, too.

If you’re pre-cropping on your computer, maybe consider all of the different shapes your theme might use, and crop so the image will work regardless. This usually involves making sure there’s plenty of space around the subject.

If that doesn’t work as well because the feel needs a tightly cropped picture, maybe consider using a different featured image (like a detail that can be cropped however a theme wants it) then put the properly cropped image in the post itself as a non-featured image. Your theme will always display those in their original shape.
