Radcliffe 2 – Centering Nav Bar/Menu

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello. I was wondering if anyone knew how to center the nav/menu bar in Radcliffe 2 theme. I have tried just about everything. I can get it semi centered with css, text align, positon and max px and min px but it doesn’t seem to center it completely on every computer especially the really large desktop screens! Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

    Hi there, this would require custom CSS, which can only be added if you have the WordPress.com Premium or Business plan. The following would be the custom CSS required to do that.

    .main-navigation {
      text-align: center;
    }
    .main-navigation ul {
      display: inline-block;
    }
    .main-navigation .menu-primary-container {
      width: 100%
    }

    You can learn more about Custom Design here.

    Thank you so much. I see you have responded to a lot of peoples questions in the wordpress forum. You are a smart guy!!

    I created a free website the one listed here and I imported the theme to our http://www.hunt4dreams.ca website and for some reason now I am stuck with the background image! It won’t let me change it. I have a file manager where I can edit the theme files but at this point I wouldn’t know what to look for. For some reason it has taken the imagine from the wordpress.com theme and when I imported that site to my new one and it lost a lot of the features I had at wordpress.com, including the social links nav menu. Do you have any idea within the coding how to change the picture? I think I am might be stuck for good which means I have to redo my entire website. Thanks again for you help I appreciate it.

    Hi there, many of the WordPress.com features can be available on your self-hosted installation, but you will need to install the Jetpack Plugin and connect it to your WordPress.com account.

    As far as a “background” image, I’m not entirely sure what you are talking about as your site has a white background for the content area. the lakeshore image is a featured image set on your main page. You can change that featured image by editing your main page and remove that featured image and add a different one.

    For support on your self-hosted installation of Radcliffe 2, I would suggest posting in the WordPress.com forums and tag your thread with wpcom-theme so we are notified and can respond there.

    If you have not yet done so, you will need to create a login username and password there since it is a different system from here with no connection, so your username and password here will not work.

    Thank you so much for your reply. I will figure out how to start a new forum for my questions. I was talking about the featured image like you said but I can’t change it for some reason, I think I need to go into the theme files, something isn’t right. It must have got mixed up when I imported my website with that lakeshore picture since it won’t change from customize menu!

    Thanks again I appreciate all your help.

    Madeline, are you referring to the image that goes across the top of each page? If so, I had the same problem. I got help from support and they said this theme makes a banner, if that is the right word at the top with the first image on the page. In the customization under content options you can disable that feature. I hope that helps!!

    Hi Madeline,

    If you’ve set a featured image for each of your posts and pages but it isn’t displaying, please do double check your Content Options, as per @marinacharron helpful guidance. :)

    As an extra note: I believe there was a typo in Richard’s last answer to you and that he intended to guide you to tag a new thread on the WordPress.org support forums with wpcom-theme.

    This is because hunt4dreams.ca hosted through a third-party company while these forums are intended to help support for sites hosted here at WordPress.com.

    The fact that your site is running on the free software available over at WordPress.org may have led you here.

    The difference between the two types of WordPress (WordPress.com and WordPress.org) is a common and understandable point of confusion. If you’re unsure of the differences, then this guide gives a good overview:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    As your site is hosted elsewhere, the forums over on WordPress.org are the best place for you to go with any extra questions:

    If you tag a new thread on the WordPress.org forum with wpcom-theme then staff here will receive a notification for the thread and we’ll help out from there.
