Radcliffe 2 color settings
-
The Radcliffe theme gives 4 style packs that have color presets. I’m using stylepack ‘Radcliffe Perfect’ but want to change the color from red to blue. I’m hoping this can be done with some custom css but not able to alter anything with my fumbling attempts so far. Please help!

Hi there,
You can choose from a selection of free colour palettes via the Colours & Backgrounds panel of the WordPress.com Customizer:
https://wordpress.com/customize/isntester.wordpress.com
If you click the “Palettes” button over the Background tab, you’ll see the colour palettes include a blue option.
Let me know if that works out for you!
If you’d like to make further tweaks to your site’s colour scheme, then more advanced Custom Design options are included as part of the WordPress.com Premium and Business plans.
Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any extra questions around that.

Hi siobhyb,
Thank you so very much for your help! Seems real obvious now you pointed it out, i just missed seeing the palette button for some reason.
If you don’t mind, I have a couple of additional questions on this theme:
1. the site title & tagline: am i able to change the text color? The site title actually has a hover over it that changes the color now from black to blue – i just need it to remain one color.
2. I’d like to utilise the ‘featured prompt’ feature on the home page – however, the box (frame?) size is way too big (it’ll push the blog post way down under the fold) – is there a way to reduce the height?
-
Of course, you’re welcome to ask as many questions as you’d like! :)
1. the site title & tagline: am i able to change the text color? The site title actually has a hover over it that changes the color now from black to blue – i just need it to remain one color.
It’s possible to make specific changes like this using custom CSS, which you’d be able to add if you upgrade to WordPress.com Premium or Business. There isn’t a way to make specific customisations like this outside of those plans, though.
It’s worth noting that the hover colour can be really helpful for people visiting your site. It’s a good visual indicator that the text is a link and that clicking on it will lead you to another page.
2. I’d like to utilise the ‘featured prompt’ feature on the home page – however, the box (frame?) size is way too big (it’ll push the blog post way down under the fold) – is there a way to reduce the height?
Again, there isn’t a built-in way to reduce the height of that prompt. You’d be able to reduce it using custom CSS, if you choose to upgrade.
Hope that’s helpful!

Hey Siobhan, thanks again for your time on this. Actually, i’m creating a premium site in tandem for an organisation using the same theme and the questions stemmed from there, so I do have access to the custom css feature. The blog is:
islingtonsurvivors.wordpress.com
Could you provide the css magic for me?
Thanks so much! -
Oh, perfect! Let me revise my answers in that case. :)
1. the site title & tagline: am i able to change the text color? The site title actually has a hover over it that changes the color now from black to blue – i just need it to remain one color.
Add the following to the CSS panel of the WordPress.com Customizer to set the colour of the title to black upon hover:
.site-title a:hover { color: #222; }Please do consider my earlier advice when implementing the above, however. It may make your site trickier for people with visual problems to navigate if they don’t see some sort of visual indication when they hover over a link.
2. I’d like to utilise the ‘featured prompt’ feature on the home page – however, the box (frame?) size is way too big (it’ll push the blog post way down under the fold) – is there a way to reduce the height?
You can set a max-height on the featured prompt area with the following:
@media screen and (min-width: 768px) { .hero-area { max-height: 500px; } }Increase/decrease the value of max-height to further increase/decrease the height of the area.

Hi Siobhan,
Thanks so much again for the help, that worked well. I don’t know what I’d do without your guidance right now!
I have a couple of requests that I’m trying to satisfy, involving the homepage – would you be able to advise!
1) The site title: static text was black, hover was blue. We made the hover the same colour as static text (black) – but I actually want this to be blue (same as hover) – what do i add to the custom css?
2) Featured prompt: height sorted! However, they want this to only appear on the left hand side of the page and the blog posts to be next to it central / on right…kind of like this on their original: http://islingtonsurvivors.co.uk/
As you’ll see, i’ve managed to sort the size i want for the prompt, but:
a) the contact us button disappears (it displays on the editor?)
b) I need css guidance to shift the blog posts up and right3) Blog posts:
a) Is there a way to display the first part of the text under the title?
b) is there a way to limit the number of posts displayed on the landing page?Sorry, i don’t mean to inundate you with questions. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi again. Glad to see your site coming along nicely. :)
1) The site title: static text was black, hover was blue. We made the hover the same colour as static text (black) – but I actually want this to be blue (same as hover) – what do i add to the custom css?
You can use the following custom CSS to change the colour of the title to blue by default:
.site-branding .site-title a { color: #0d75a9; }2) Featured prompt: height sorted! However, they want this to only appear on the left hand side of the page and the blog posts to be next to it central / on right…kind of like this on their original: http://islingtonsurvivors.co.uk/
There isn’t a good way to replicate that layout using custom CSS with Radcliffe 2.
If it’s important to you to have featured content in a sidebar, you could perhaps have a browse through our repository for a theme that supports a sidebar by default. CSS isn’t intended for larger, more complex layout changes and it’s generally best to have a theme that more closely matches with the layout you want (I’ve included some suggestions further down in this reply).
3) Blog posts:
a) Is there a way to display the first part of the text under the title? There isn’t a way to display excerpts alongside the posts on Radcliffe 2’s home page, no. If this is important to you then perhaps you could consider a different theme? You can filter for themes that display a post excerpts via the following link:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/blog-excerpts
Intergalactic 2 has a similar style of posts page to Radcliffe 2, except it also displays excerpts.
You can also filter for themes that have a left sidebar (for you to display your featured prompt in):
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/left-sidebar
b) is there a way to limit the number of posts displayed on the landing page
Absolutely! The first step to this is to disable infinite scroll. That can be done via our classic interface.
To access the classic interface, add /wp-admin to the end of your site’s URL. Like so:
https://islingtonsurvivors.wordpress.com/wp-admin
From there, navigate to Settings > Reading in the left sidebar:
https://islingtonsurvivors.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php
You’ll find a checkbox next to “Check to load posts as you scroll. Uncheck to show clickable button to load posts” on the above page.
You can then increase or decrease the number next to “Blog pages show at most” to your liking.
Hope that’s helpful! If you have extra questions you can either reply back here or contact us via our form:
