Radcliffe 2: Featured Images don't resize
-
Hi,
I am playing with the new Radcliffe 2 theme. In the description of the theme, it is noted that featured images should be at least 2000px wide to get a clear and crisp result.
I uploaded a picture that is slightly smaller than that and set it as featured image. However, when loading the resulting page, the image is cut off left and right, unless I resize the browser window to fullscreen. It looks to me as if the image is not responsive, e.g. does not resize to the width of the browser window.
I am guessing this must be a bug?

Hello @cryptochrome,
I tested it by creating a test post and uploading a featured image, but I didn’t see the width problem you were referring to. It’s responsive on my end. I could resize the browser, and it doesn’t affect the image.
See screenshots here:

https://i.imgur.com/fqVqgqi.pngAs per the theme documentation from this link, the dimensions must be 2000px width x 1500px height. If you’re to upload smaller than that, please try keeping the dimensions proportional. (for example, 1000px x 750px)
You can also find more information from this link.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thanks Rose.
What’s weird is that this happens to all the images I put anywhere on the page. If they are too large to fit the page, they are cut off instead of being resized dynamically.
Not sure what to do.

I checked that page, and I see what you’re saying for this image – https://i.imgur.com/taC44du.jpg
It seems too wide to me, so I downloaded it and it has 1894px x 601px dimension.
The dimensions of the featured image must be 2000px x 1500px. It works like a container, the size could be reduced or enlarged, but it will keep the proportion. We need a little Math here. :D (Example: 2000px/2 x 1500px/2 = 1000px x 750px is the half smaller with the correct proportion, and 2000px*2 x 1500px*2 = 4000px x 3000px is the twice larger) There are many image editor you can use – I normally use Photoshop, Illustrator or Preview app.
Unfortunately, the size of the image you used for this page is not proportional to that size. It’s too wide, but the container will force to make it proportion, that’s why it would cut the sides.
If I am to do this, I’d make a 2000px x 1500px file in photoshop or illustrator, then I’d work on my graphics there.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

I am not sure why you say it is self-hosted. It is not. I am a paying WP Business plan customer.
Re: image size. I just tried to resize the image according to your math, but the aspect ratio doesn’t fit those proportions, so the whole image gets distorted when resizing to 1500*750.

I’m sorry I was looking at another blog.

Yes, it will, and same thing that happens when you upload it. Your graphics/image must adjust to the size, and not the other way around. You might need to create a new graphic to that size.
