Radcliffe Theme format & Reader Issues
-
Have some questions which may be simple issues…
When I attempt to get Youtube videos to embed in a post results are ver random… some embed some do not… how can I get precictable results… the direction from wordpress are to just use a url in the visual view and make sure it is not “linked” which works sometimes…
see this post as an example of the inconsistency… http://wp.me/p2Ph8B-ZL
Also when photos in a blog post are clicked on I would like the viewer to get a larger image – instead it is a smaller image – where do I change that?
Also in that post the pinterest site that I included does not show up in the Reader view of the post … there are other issues with Reader – why does reader choose a random image in the post preview instead of the Featured Image? This really sometimes hurts first impressions… How can I get reader to use the Featured Image?
Last Question for now – Is it really true that the only way to get a thinner font on article titles is to upgrade to $99 a year version… that is the only change I wish for as the default font is too big on mobile views and obscures the graphics…
Thanks for any help

I use only the youtube shortcodes exactly as described here http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/#embedding-with-a-shortcode and they have never, not even once, failed for me. Have you noted the troubleshooting section? http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/#troubleshooting

What are the sizes for image you set here?

Are you referring to featured images or not? -

why does reader choose a random image in the post preview instead of the Featured Image?
Currently, when a post with the Standard, Aside, Link, Quote, or Status post format contains a video or audio embed or slideshow, that embed is pulled out and used in the Reader. Otherwise, it uses an image from the post.
If the post has the Gallery or Image post format, a video or audio embed in that post would not be used in the Reader – one or more images would be used instead.
The way our RSS feeds work is that it pulls and displays the first image it finds inside the post content. When the Reader looks for an image, it goes for the featured image first and then an image inserted into the post — if there are no images that meet the size criteria, it will display the image as a thumbnail instead of a large image.

You are using a responsive layout theme. A responsive layout theme adapts to different screen sizes so that your website will work (and be optimized for) iPhones, iPads, Android and other mobile devices. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading.
The mobile theme is a completely different theme. When we use a responsive theme we disable the mobile theme Go to > Appearance > Mobile and disable the mobile theme

Thank you for getting me to read through and catch the detail of adding
[youtube=shortlink] for embedding youtube videos! – that code piece fixed that issue -
on the settings media and image size question –
thumbnails are at 150 150
medium – which must be whats happening when an individual photo is clicked on are 300 by 300
and large are 2560 by 1440i could not figure out anything on the radcliffe website except that featured photos should be at least 1440 by 500
no I am not referring to featured images – just any image when clicked on – which links then to just that image in most blogs templates – in Radcliffe it is always shown medium and must be clicked on a second time to go to large size – want that be default if possible
-
On the mobile theme question and size of headliner text size – I did have the mobile theme turned off – unless post title text can be adjusted I may just have to shorten titles to stop the bleed over and complete cover up of images – a change Radcliffe’s formatting will require of me…

@ treothe,
Also when photos in a blog post are clicked on I would like the viewer to get a larger image – instead it is a smaller image – where do I change that?
This is very understandable. Who would want an image to shrink when it is clicked on? However, (though I could be wrong) it appears that this theme does display thumbnail images by default on attachment pages. I am unaware of any way to change this behavior.
You might have noticed that if you click on the image twice it will display the full-size media file image. -
And so to get the reader to use featured images – if there are any embedded multimedia – I should not use my default standard format – but rather use a gallery or image post format… hmmm – will explore that – yes it worked with image formatting – hmmm will have to do this on others as well and research what the difference is in the formatting…

Clarification:
I didn’t mean double click. Clicking on the image displayed in the post, and then on the small attachment image will bring you back to the full size image, though I’m sure this not what you’d like the behavior to be. Also, selecting “view image” from the right click menu will display the image at full size. -
Yes, perhaps a different post format might display them differently. I haven’t tested that yet.

Thanks for trying musicdoc! and the glitch with pinterest is not in settings and the share option – it is an pinterest board embed – which works unless using the reader and then it is simply gone! I will put in a hyperlink to cover this for now
